    98 Intruder 175 - Boyesen Reeds

    Model: E175GLECD
    Serial: G04354269

I want to install Boyesen Reeds (#164) in my motor. Has anyone installed them on this motor? I'm not sure if I should install new jets and set the timing to something other than 6 ATDC. The motor has the stock #39 jets. Any suggestions are appreciated.

BTW...The only reason I am considering the reeds is to protect the pistons. From what I understand, the Boys burn whereas the stock reeds will damage a piston. What are the chances of breaking a stock reed on a 11 year old motor?

    Thanks in advance!

You'll have to replace the "spaghetti" O ring on the intake manifolds and follow the instructions from Boyensen.

You will need to step up on the jets at least 2 sizes and you will need to drop timing down 2 deg from stock setting. The chances of breaking a reed valve on a stock motor turning less than 7000rpm are slim to none. You probably will not notice a diffrence with the boyesen reeds. Been there done that.
