    115hp E-Tec Died

We purchased in April 2006 the 115hp ETec and on May 11, 2009, it died - 34 days pass the 3-year warranty.

Hubby was going across lake when out of the blue, RPM went to -0- and strange noises were heard. Dealer says the #2 cylinder is gone. The motor has approximately 94 hours on it. Since we live in MN, the boat is only used April - October and stored inside.

What would cause this to happen and any ideas on how to pursue this with BRP?? Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: 115hp E-Tec Died (dkippen)

Hi, sorry to hear that, but first thing to do would be contact your selling dealer and find out why it happened and then he can talk to BRP. Have you done that yet or just come in here first?

On gateway it looks like a PH has already been claimed for so BRP are very good on out of warranty repairs, but you need to find out what caused it so that if and when it gets repaired it does not happen again. The V4 have been rock solid for us and the only one that has failed was due to a crimped fuel line in the boat, but BRP still warranted it. I would be making sure your boats fuel system is upto spec. The V4 here in OZ is a very popular and we have not seen any real issues with them.

    Cheers,

    Huey.

    Re: 115hp E-Tec Died (Huey)

After hubby called friends for a tow off the lake, he then called the dealer and we had the boat in two days later. What was wrong with the boat came from the dealer. They have been in contact w/BRP and they don't know what happened either.

In doing some research about the motor and potential problems, I came across this forum. What is a "PH". I'm assuming you're in Australia. I'm in the US.

Thanks. As an FYI - hubby has babied this since the day it came home and has followed all manufacturer guidelines for taking care of the motor.

Don't think BRP will let you down on this. Make sure your dealer has contacted Tech Services and you should follow up with a call to customer service have your model and serial number handy.

I believe dealer has contacted BRP as well as I have, and then while I don't think it will matter, followed up with letters to the various BRP management/customer service I could find.

    Re: 115hp E-Tec Died (SEAHORSE)

Not to hijack your thread but my 200 HO Etec died this past Sat. Same as yours it is making some bad noise in the motor. I have taken it to dealer but they have not looked at it yet.

Question, should I also call Evinrude and let them know of the problem. I bought mine 04/14/09, probably has about 5 hours on it.

    Thanks Roger

Glad yours is ready, how long did they have it? Did they replace the power head or did they rebuild.

    Thanks, Roger

There should be no need to call BRP. There is no question about warranty on yours.

Thanks for the reply's. I just hate to have a brand new boat tied up for 2 weeks but I realize that they are busy this time of year. Oh well! that is just a part of life.

    Re: 115hp E-Tec Died (dkippen)

Hi, good news and no manufacturer will contact an owner, it is the dealers job to do this and the repairs, which has been done in a timing fashion and as per the warranty. I hope the dealer has done the fuel sytem checks and made sure it is upto spec.

    Cheers,

    Huey.

    Re: 115hp E-Tec Died (Huey)

What does this mean "good news?" I contacted BRP cust. svc earlier today and know they got my letter today and it is in "review", whatever that means.

When we found out what was wrong, the dealer had contacted BRP and they said BRP would replace PH, but as of right now, we're being billed for labor. I'm trying to appeal this with BRP.

Before we pickup the boat, I will ask about fuel system checks - thanks for the advice.
