73SV freezing up after update

I updated the software on my 73SV last week. Yesterday, on split screens chart/side view, the whole screen froze up twice. Had to remove it from mount and cut back on. Would not even cut off. What gives?

There are more and more reports like this popping up recently.

Most folks are fixing it by doing a factory reset.

I dont know the exact steps on your mfd. It should be in the owners manual.

On my 7610 its:

From the Home screen go to Settings/System/System Information/Factory settings and then reset.

Doing that is NOT supposed to erase any waypoints, but someone recently lost a bunch doing that, so I would back up my waypoints to the sd card just to be safe.

If that doesnt work, time to call customer support.

Idid software up date 3.80 last week seems to have fixed the same issue with my 93svs

First, be absolutely sure that you do have 3.80 loaded. This update fixed this issue for nearly all of the customers that were experiencing it.

Reply with the following information so I can get it to our Support team:

CHIRP or nonCHIRP 73sv?
Are you running an accessory mapping card (i.e., LakeVu HD Ultra)?
Have you tried a factory reset?

Same Issue here. my 73sv(non-Chirp) freezes once per trip usually within the first 10min of fishing then no problems after that. before I did I factory reset and a firmware update it would freeze all the time.

I am still having the problem after a factory reset and software update. After it froze up on the lake I did another factory reset still had it freeze up three more times. I have a93sv chirp running 3.8 version. I was using a three way split screen. On the left side view on the right upper down view lower navigation chart. The only maps I have are the ones that came with the unit.

I may have some time this week with all the bad weather to go back out and see if it happens again. 3.8 version, no factory reset yet. non chirp.

I never update any unit Ive ever owned from what it came with out the box and have never had a issue from Garmin,Lowrance or Humminbird.

I've been dealing with the lockups as well on 93sv for awhile even prior to 3.8. Updated to 3.8 and issue persists. Checked voltages etc and everything looks good. Called Garmin and they sent me a refurb but it freezes as well. Only other options aside from the unit which garmin tested before it shipped to me is something in the power wiring or transducer.

i had a 73sv with the same problem using the 3.80 update. the unit was new so i took mine back. bought a 53cv and had issues with the depth readings being inaccurate and flashing. unfortunately im now shopping for another brand.

I have been talking with Garmin and together we think the problem is either the transducer or the bale mount. That being said, I have agreed to send them my head unit, transducer and bale mount. They want to try and recreate the problem and determine the cause and if it can be corrected with a software update. It sounds as if they are already working on an update and were anxious to incorporate any findings into the next update if it is determined that software can correct the issue. I hope they are successful.

I really hope they get this figured out. Sometimes after a freeze, I'll unmount the unit, put it back in, power on, and instant freeze. It's fine when I'm on my home lake but really makes it a pain when I'm fishing new lakes and have no charts or graphs.

I had I happen 2 times with my 73SV non chirp unit always when I'm on the mapping screen but might do it also on sonar screens just so happen to be on the mapping when it happens. Once I power it off and that can take some time holding down the power button but once it starts back up it's ok

Mine is doing the same thing, I took my lake vu HD ultra map card out & it did not freeze up anymore, has anyone else tried this.

Mine freezes 1 to 2 times per outting. Mainly when I go from deep to shallow (5') No idea why. I know one thing though I have bunch of new spots to try this year. :)
