Are they the same as jackplate bolts? http://www.bobsmachine.com/Pro...t.cfm

IMHO, standard size stainless is just too soft, especially for 500+ lb motors. I would upgrade to at lease 5/8" stainless, or if staying with 1/2 ", some sort of grade 8 or better steel.

I too would use the biggest diameter SS bolts that fit in the holes. I assumed 1/2 in is the norm. My bolts are snug in my motor and jackplate.

I used 9/16 grade eight when I put the new Detwiler jackplate on.

All at the same time, or one here and there?

He never broke a thing on the Cobra and he drove it a lot. Paul didn't either so I guess it was a tough little boat.

I use grade 9 bolts in 1/2 in. You can get them at Fastenal. That way you have the strength of 5/8 in grade 8 bolts but don't have to drill out anything to make them fit.

Kurt's right, and long ago based on his advice I changed to using these

I also took Kurts advise, used 5/8" grade 8 on transum and static plate to jack plate and 9/16" grade 8 on the motor. I did have to drill the static plate, jack plate and the transum. I had replaced the stainless with 1/2" grade 8 bolts and nuts before going larger. I just didn't want to have a problem. I also added 1/2" thick alum plates on the inside of the transum for added protection.

Dean, that sounds like an ideal setup.........
