    1988 Johnson 150 Primer Question

I have a 1988 Johnson 150, the question I have is the primer knob normally supposed to be towards the front of the boat or the rear? Since I had carb work done I have been getting really really bad fuel mileage and I am thinking this may be the problem.

Okay then this is not the problem, Does anyone have any ideas why I would be getting such poor fuel mileage? I have done a full tune-up on it, and had the carbs professional cleaned.

Have you noticed a big change. Maybe a leak somewhere at higher rpm's?

I'm gonna do a "mileage" check on mine tomorrow on the gps and see how poor my GT150 really is. Since I bought it last month I've noticed it can suck down an 18 gal tank in no time.

No I have not noticed any leaks, maybe it does just get really bad fuel mileage. I took the wife out Sunday with a full tank and besides getting up on a plane once all we did was cruise slowly around the lake looking at houses for sale and by lunch time the fuel gauge was bouncing on "E" and we never left the dock until 9am.

Well thanks for the help guys.

GT= Gas Thirsty but if you are just cruising your mileage shouldn't be that bad. I'd put a new set of Champ QL77JC4's gapped at .030 in her and see how it does. E-10 fuel don't help matters either.

You have the mother, mama sow of all gas hogs, the same as I have on my boat. Mine was and still is a gas hog from the day I took delivery in 1985 until now, nothing has changed, it still love fuel.

    Best of luck,

    Melvin

    Re: 1988 Johnson 150 Primer Question (fire8033)

Thanks for the help, I did check the plugs today which are new and found that they were gaped at about .020 instead of .030 and a little wet. I hope gaping them at .030 will help a little. Not sure what the wetness is all about.
