    Dash electronics.

I'm just curious what everyone has for their GPS/depthfinder unit on the dash. I'm not looking to put on a ram mount, but want to flush mount it on the dash in front of the steering wheel. I am looking at getting a HDS 5 right now, hopefully Lowrance has beefed up the internal antenna. Opinions...suggestions...

I have the 520. You can add the LGC 4000 antenna if you need to. I would be more concerned about Lowance fixing there problems with the HD units.

I have heard rumors of them having problems with getting wet.....as in not waterproof.

HDS5 is the same size as the 520C so it will fit nicely between the Tach and the Speedo gauges.

Lowrance did have early probs with the HDS series in regard to water getting in the units, I've heard that is now fixed but don't have personal experience to confirm that.

I believe Blair has those units so maybe he can chime in

I have the HDS 5 at the console and the HDS 7 in the coffin.........GREAT UNITS !!!

No problem whatsoever on any moisture problems. The structure scan will be next.

The HDS 5 is slightly larger than the 520, but it fits fine in the dash.

Blair: Not an 8 at the bow I'm going to go with a 8 on my floor mount system near the console and the 5 up front eventually. Probably leave the 520 C in the dash

No probs with the internal antenna on the HDS5 here. You will have to cut the hole a little bigger to flush mount it though.

I have a low end Lowrance unit in the dash but added a Humminbird side imaging unit next to the dash on a suction cup mount. It is easy to setup and remove with no holes in the boat.

I think that set up is pretty cool with the suction cup I'd just be worried about it bouncing off in rough water or at high speeds?

I have had it over 90 many time and it does not move. If I am going to run really rough water, I leave it in the rod locker and set it up once I get where I am going.

If I had a screen that big, I would need some popcorn.

I put a 1197si at the console on a ram mount. When fishing I just spin it around and can read it from the front of the boat.Feel blind without it.

You should see the 1197. You can watch movies from across the lake.

Something that big you should be able to see the hole lake bottom at once.

Fastglass....I assume you don't have problems with the rod locker lid pinching the wires?

It does kink the wire a bit. Long term not the way to go. I will be fixing it over the winter.

Just curious...but where you gonna bring the wires thru the glass at? Thinking bout doing the ram mount thing (if I go bigger than a HDS 5)....but don't want to put a hole in the glass right there around the clam shell. Floor of the front deck maybe?
