    Gauges not working

Need help, I bought a boat recently, the motor was stolen off the rear of the boat in 2001. Who ever stole the motor used bolt cutters to cut the harnes. I can not get any of the gauges to work , Tach,Fuel,Trim. We have checked the volts at the gauge posts from all gauges, the volt are 12, with ignition on,14.3 volts when motor running. Checked sender wire and got 6.7- 6.9 volts when running, just what it suppose to be. My question is when they cut the haness could they have shorted out all these guages with the bolt cutters. It just seems funny that all these guages are not working but the volts are still there. The power and grnd wires are linked from one guages to another. Any help would be thankful

Did you check all the ground wires to make sure they were electrically connected to the motor?

never unhooked any from motor. but i have looked under thr cowling for the i did not see anything noticeable.. all i did was unhook old motor from jackplate of older boat lift and bolt back on new boat. Took harness out withy motor never unhooked it from motor either. it seemed to be getting good ground at gauge post.

Take your gauges off individually and see if they work independant from the boat. If they will you have got to got the power and ground problems resolved to each gauge. On my boat, there is a master fuse block that is under the console with a common ground and hot going from the block to each gauge. Sounds like if all is good on the engine side that you may have ground, hot, or problems with both at the block. .........................RR
