    Indexed plugs needed???

    Model: E115FPLSTB
    Serial Number: 05007476

I thought i read somewhere i don't need indexed plugs. But the plugs I removed have the black stripe on them. Is this necessary for my engine?????

Yes http://www.boatsetup.com/PlgIndexing.html If you check the one stop shopping link at the top of the forum all of your questions will be answered.

    Re: Indexed plugs needed??

Thanks. I am glad I double checked. I read that same note one month ago (right after i bought the boat), and MIS-INTERPRETED it. I would have bet it said NOT NEEDED on my engine, but I was clearly wrong. When I originally looked at the boat, we took plugs out, did compression test, and reinstalled them (not back into original cylinders). At the time, I knew nothing of indexing plugs. Nor did the seller of the boat apparently. He always had the shop do his maintenance.

So Now, If i need to index plugs I must be a little more careful. Also, I will try to use plugs as long as I can and have backups on hand for each cylinder ahead of time. Is there a suggested way to determine if a plug is in good shape? Also, how can the plug be cleaned, this is not a plug I'm familiar with.

    After 100 hours replace them.

I have no idea how long they've been in. I guess i will start brand new !!! Keep these ones for replacements in emergency as they seem to run okay.

Just make sure you gap them a .028 if the motor starts to run sluggish then pull a plug check the gap and look for sooty build up.
