Having trouble keeping fish alive, I noticed one of the wells is overfilling and please help me clarify which toggle you should use for recirculate.

You will hear a lot of different opinionated on this one... I can tell you what I do and I am sure others will chime in as well. I turn on both pumps when the first fish goes in the well, after it is full I set the fill switch to auto so it will pump fresh water in every few minutes, I leave the recirc pump running constantly all day. If ythe fish you are catching are shallow they will be fine all day doing this, if they are coming from deeper water I would only add fresh water a few times throughout the day and make sure to add ice when its hot out, shouldn't have any issues with doing this. As for the switch, you have two if I remember correctly. You will have a black round "dial" type selector.that will say recirc and empty, turn it to recirc.... this is for the valve that drains the livewell, or in this case keeps it from draining... you should also have two switches on the console that turn the different pumps on.... hope this helps....
thanks hookset, I will try that. We are catching them deep and the water temp is near 90, I do have two toggles both say live well neither specifies which one does what. I do thing the top is the fresh water pump and the bottom is the recirculate. If I wanted to maintain the water with Ice and fish saver should I just use the recirculate?
Yes use recirculator if you maintain your livewell with ice and close the well. It would be useless using the aerator, freshwater would just warm it back up. When it fills i close it then add rejuvenate and ice to mine and i use recirculator and the pro air system that i added.
Make sure you have your valve on recirc, if the valve is on auto the recirc pump will pull in freash water to.
Thanks guys, just to make sure the bottom toggle is the recirculate pump correct? It seems to me if I use the upper switch I am still bringing in fresh water with the selector in the rec. mode.
To know for sure whitch pump is for the recirc pump, fill the livewell up in your drivway, turn the dial to recirc, turn 1 pump on , if you hear it running but no water is moving, that is the pump that will always pump in new water, turn the other pump on and the water in the livewell should be getting pumped up and shooting out of the fill nozzle at the top of the livewell. Then mark that pump switch so you remember.
I will be honest. In all the fishing I've done I still wonder how in the hell to work this livewell system. I screw it up every time. I'm sure it is simple, but I've never had anyone ever show me exactly how to use mine and I've had this kind of system since '99.![]()

I know what you mean. It sure would make everything simple if they would label the switch's "freshwater" and "Recirc".

I know for real. I'll be honest I'm a pretty smart cookie but I never get this thing right.
Buck if you are catching fish deep. I don't care what you do with the live well. If you don't "fizz" those fish. The odds of them making it, go way down in the summer. We face the same issue here in East Tenn. This is what I started doing in my 09 Evo and I never lost a fish after that. Fill up l/well, add ice, when l/well is full, turn on re-circ leave it on rest of day. Add 8oz hydrogen peroxide for additional O2, add rejuvenade, 4 cap fulls, and fizz every fish. They will be kicking when you weigh in I guarantee it....I only add fresh water if I make a run and lose some water out. That peroxide keeps the O2 level up all day or night. Just my 2 cents worth. If your having serious issues, try it one time and see if it helps. Just go to Wal-Mart and get a BIG bottle of peroxide for $2.00, and I have small bottle I measure it out into and carry that small bottle in my boat each tournament. Just re-fill it after I use it. I believe the correct rate of peroxide is 3oz per 10 gallons of water. Make sure you get the 3%, just regular household peroxide. There will be somebody jump on me for saying use peroxide I'm sure. That's ok. It generates instance O2 in the water with those re-circ pumps going and I KNOW it works so I use it. Good luck.......
Thanks upscat, we fish the same waters. I do fizz them, but never tried the peroxide. Give it a try thanks for everyones tips.![]()
