Garmin 4 pin transducer to 12 pin head unit

Gents, I just picked up a echomap chirp 93sv. I ice fish a fair bit in the winter and was hoping to get the GT8HW-IF which is a 4 pin transducer for use through the ice, however if doesn't appear that there is an adapter that goes from 4 to 12 pin. The iceducer will work with the dv units (non sidevu) though. Has anyone heard about this, or have any idea if garmin will ever make the appropriate adapter? Does anyone out there make custom adapters? I suppose I could use an regular open water transducer but im doubtful I can get someone for $120.

    thanks!

As far as I know, there is not a cable made for this. So it takes 2 cables.
010-12122-10 to go from the chirp 93sv 12 pin to an 8 pin connector
010-11948-00 to go from the 8 pin connector above to the 4 pin transducer connector.

The only other option I know of is to buy the 12 pin box 010-11613-10 for making your own.
Using this means that you would have to get the pinout color code from Garmin for the GT8HW-IF, cut the connector off and manually wire it into this box.
I've seen it for about $60. Getting the other 2 might be cheaper.

Either way you have to go into your settings and manually select this transducer.
My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.

Thanks man, I just found those on the garmin site ( not sure why I didn't find it before). 20$ and 15$... you figure the two adapter cables together will work? Sounds easier and cheaper then the box, though that is interesting (and th first time I've heard of it).
Thanks for the detailed response and part numbers... now I have a summer of ice fishing map building ahead of me. Cheers!

They should work. Todd is the expert and he confirmed this on another post.
I have had to double up cables like this on a different unit.
Just make sure everything is tight when you connect them.

Yeah I just saw and read through the previous post about the ice transducer and it looks like it will work. Thanks for clarifying.

Now the question is, how does sidevu work for ice fishing? Though I don't want to spend the extra $$ maybe i'd be better off riggin up a SV tranducer for use on the ice. Here's the scenario I have in my mind- I'm fishing a shallow basin 6-15 fow for rainbows. They are fairly active so typically cruising around. If I'm set up in the middle of the basin with the xducer below the ice line, I assume it would mark fish if they pass through the narrow band of sv (say it's running due east and west). The transducer will be stationary so no change in bottom, however if fish are following a north-south transition 75' to the east of me I would be marking them as the pass by and could relocate accordingly. Can anyone shoot holes in this or has anyone tried it?

I have not tried Garmin SI on the ice but I have tried Humminbird SI on ice. It was a waste of time and money. As the SI need movement to be useful. From what you want to do the PS 21 Panoptix would do a great job. The scenario you have described is covered in the posting about guys using the PS21. They were using to find bluegill but the technique they employed would be identical.

    Thanks for that link Hays.
What is the time lag between the sonar ping and readings showing up on the edge of the screen for side vu? It can't be that much? Everyone said pan optics is live feedback but I'm curious what the actual time difference is between that and the newest data that is displayed on screen with the gt52 (whether it is sv, dv or 2d).

The time lag for sv,dv or 2d is not an issue. I think its pretty much the same for all brands. And for all of them there does seem to be a slightly perceptible delay as you move into water 100 ft deep.

I don't ice fish but I would think that Side imaging of any kind would be practically worthless since the signal would be bouncing from the surface and making a mess on the screen at most ranges. That's the Panoptix difference. You can see under all that very well.
