need advice on stratos fuel tank

I have a 2003 201 pro xl. With a vmax 250. 50 gal tank. I bought used last yr. Since i can run gauge to empty and only put in 30 gallons. Had sending unit out when i had carpet redone and shop put sending unit tester on it. It operated properly and was cleaned. I hate refilling so often when i know i have 20 more gallons but dont want to chance it.thanks for any advice

what shape is the tank? Meaning is it wider or longer at the boyyom? That would explain why your guage seems off.

Mine is never correct either. When it is full the gauge shows 3/4. When it shows 1/2 I have used about 10 gal. Like you, never sure so I fill up each time.

there are a couple companys that make programable sender units for all applications kinda expensive but i was thinking the same think why tote around 20 gallons of gas if i dont need to

I had a similar problem with my gauge / sending unit. Had the original replaced due to it reading 1/4 of a tank when it was about empty, and would not show full. Shop put in a new sending unit. The new sending unit would show empty when I still had 10 plus gallons left. I didn't like this. I took it back and they couldn't do anthing to it. I found a website on sending units. I have a vertical sending unit. No arm. The website tells you how to measure your tank, (top to bottom) to find the right length sending unit. It tells you to measure top to bottom and then subtract 1" for the sending unit. I did, and ordered me one. Took the one the shop put in and compaired the two. Shop put in that was 14" and I just bought a 12.5" to replace it.?? ( my tank measured 13.5") Well I put in the one I bought and it works just fine. Shows right at "E" when I have 5 gallons left. Goes a bit below "E" to be empty. You might have an access hole in your port / passenger side storage in the rear of boat to measure your tank. Wasn't hard to do. good luck..
