Hey guys i wanna hear the scoop on these motors? iam looking at upgrading my 99 Merc Efi to a DFI motor and found a reasonable price on this unit,, the Lower Unit was just replaced under warranty,,, were these things trouble or are they solid motors? i dont wanna get something thats gonna be full of problems and wish i had kept the Merc!!!..........Thanks guys

DI or ETEC?? My 03 DI is a hoss compared to the carb motors. l/u issues can be contributed to surfacing too much or something in the water hitting 'em other than that solid!!
ITS Etec,,, not sure on the hours yet but up here we have a shorter season so i am hoping not to bad

I couldn't be happier with mine, a lot of guys run them out here and they are the best out there in my opinion. Mine is also an '05. It did have lower unit problems that some of the early model '05's had, that would have been corrected already if it was a problem on that motor.
Yes the entire lower Unit was just replaced under warranty and he said something that the powerhead being upgraded around 200 hours possibly?....
is 500 hours alot in total?

That's not exactly low hours for having short seasons. For sake of comparison, I have an '06 with 75 hours!!

Yeah but it's a dry heat.
I guess the previous owner really hit the water while it was not frozen ,, about a 100 hours a season,, power head was replaced at 90 hours under warranty,,, any guesses how much fuel savings i will actually see switching over from a 1999 225 Merc EFI

A bunch those EFI's like the fuel too. 100 per season ain't too terrible bad.
my 05 etec has about 250hrs on it.mine runs very well and it pushes my 05 tr21x to 77+gps with just me and 1/3 tank gas.sips oil and is very quiet at idle.my next one will be the 250 ho.with the price of new boats i may have to just repower the 05!
25 or 26p prop and what kind? i have a 6" manual Jackplate?? and i get 67-68mph Tourney load with the 225 Merc EFI,, sound like i should pick up a few MPH

I ran the 225ho for three years, Im not far from you, Im in Fort Frances, and mine had over 350 hours on it.
Upgraded to 2009 250 HO
and will run nothing but Evinrudes.
the motor i speak of,, is at pinewood ......

Yep! loved the motor,
But needed a waranty, What are they asking for it?
$9999 ...looking into aftermarket warranty's for the motor...
how did the lower unit lose oil?
what happened to the powerhead at 90 hours?
