    Removing Gas Tank

    96 Stratos 278v ?

I need to pull the tank to get to the livewell drain switch. Are these boats designed to be able to get the tanks out through the rear hatch or is it much more complicated?

    Thanks

    Re: Removing Gas Tank (StratosDadRI)

I have a 278 FS with the exact same tank. I had to get it out to replace a busted livewell drain valve. What I did after siphoning out the fuel was remove all lines and the aluminum brackets and the tank rotated up and just slipped right through the opening. It was real easy. Once it is loose just rotate the back of the tank up and it will come right out. You will have to take of the support arm as well. You will be amazed at how easy it it to get to all of the pumps and livewell drain.

Thanks. I was hoping it was that easy. I just had trouble with square blocks and round holes when I was a baby they tell me. I have bought every type of siphon and can't get any down the filler neck. I have always wanted to be able to use the gas in the generator over the winter if we needed it. Looks like I'll remove the fitting on the tank.

I just used some tubing from Home Depot and was able to siphon almost all of it through the fill tube.

You have a built in siphon! un hook your fuel line behind the bulb then put another line on it and pump away. I had to do that during our ice storm a couple years ago to keep the generator full.

    Re: Removing Gas Tank (stratos284)

I bought the OEM bulb and line and had the dealer put on the factory clamps. Guess I can just seperate it from the tank connection and siphon there.
