    Thank you so much LW,
That is very technical but bottom line is that the GT 52 with a Q-factor of 2.17 makes it an excellent transducer, right up there with some of the best transducers on the market that are much more expensive.
From what I understand, the Q-factor on 2D increases the sharpness, thus better target separation, but on down vu and Side vu the increased sharpness seems as though it may decrease the size of fish returns and make those fish more difficult to see.

As a Technical person I have to use my noggin hard all week and prefer to give it a break when it comes to my weekend hobby
When it comes to re-rigging I would just prefer to call a company, tell them what type of fishing I do and if they have a good knowledge of the product they are selling, they should be able to make recommendations to me. Especially when trying to decide if I should spend $1000 or $1500 of my hard earned cash, which unit would work best for my scenario is all I would like to know.
Maybe I am expecting to much, I dont think so but I have been wrong before.
Thanks for all the information, still unable to decide which unit would work best for me and after reading a post about PS21's having interference issues maybe I should just punt.

Im a little different in my approach. Mainly because I dont have your trust in people in general to know what the heck they are talking about!

No product has 100% good reviews or 100% perfect performance out of the box. Someone somewhere will have an issues with anything no matter how good.

Second, I dont trust any sales people ever - especially on technical details - I used to be one

I start by looking at what I want the product to do. I do a lot of searching on-line and narrow things down to a short list based on MFG's claims and specs. I might go into a store to get some hands-on looking done but I never listen to the sales guys. I have yet to run into one who actually knew as much about the product as I did or who had what little they did know 100% correct. Cabellas, BassPro, West Marine etc dont hire people based on technical knowledge. They hire people who will work for minimum wage. That person may have actually fished at one time but probably have never used or even seen a hi-end sonar in their life until they started working there.

Ok, there are probably exceptions to that, but I have not met one yet :)

Once I narrow things down, I start reading reviews and checking threads on here and 4 or 5 other fishing boards I hang out on. There are ALWAYS bad reviews and problem reports. The trick is to try to judge if those bad reports are the exception to the general rule or if they happen often enough to down check the item Im looking for.

Yes, some people are having issues - some of them serous issues - with interference on the PS21. So far, its not very many out of the total number using them.

From what I have seen so far, it seems to be highly dependent on the trolling motor and/or the other sonar frequencies you are using.

As far as the trolling motor generated interference - that can happen with any transducer of any brand. I dont happen to have any trolling motor issues at all and most people dont either, so I think your odds there are pretty good.

As far as the possible frequency interference issues, we are narrowing that down in this and other current threads, but its not 100% figured out yet. I think we will have some solid feed back soon though to help avoid or reduce that problem. Still, it looks like an even smaller number of people have that problem bad enough to worry about, so your odds are still pretty good.

Of course, only you can decide how much "risk" you're willing to take on a new hi $$ purchase. If I was shopping for Panoptix right now, these reports would not slow me down more than a short minute :)

Lucky you. Weather sucks up north - wind, rain, cold!

By the way, anyone who is lucky enough to be able to go fishing, gets graded harder! ;)

For you the PS21 will be best since you are not casting at a target.

The 3D view stinks andI dont think anyone actually uses it.

Thanks, I thought the 3D view would be useful but the more I read the more it seems its not used much.
The other reason for considering the PS31 was power. I thought the PS21 could only mark fish 60' forward and the PS31 was well over 100'.
Do you troll with your PS21? I read your posts about the trouble you had with the PS31, did that ever get resolved?
