    Garmins Response to the Soltex

Well Humminbird has come up with what looks like one excellent unit in the Soltex. The 15 inch version SI sets you back about 3500 and the 12 about 2800.

So I don't expect them to fly out the door.

I am curious if Garmin has a round in the magazine so to speak to respond with. I like both companies so the competition ought to heavily grace us fishermen with some great units

Just speculation but I think that the past few years give us an indication that Garmin intends to compete at every level, entry, middle and high-end. Plus with Panoptix they are number #1 on innovation. Lowrance has released their latest, greatest. Now Humminbird has done the same. I'm not the least bit envious. Of course, all of you have heard my rant on this before. The best imagined Side Imaging has never been my thing. Rocks, sticks, limbs, twigs......finding structure to find fish doesn't do much for me. On my lake you only need an electric trolling motor to find all the structure you can stand. You'd never leave sight of the ramp. The PS30 is working very very well for me to find fish. You look for pretty structure. I'll stick with looking for fish - suspended fish!!!!
My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.

I dont see anything the Solix has or does that Garmin hasnt had for a long time other than the Mega Imaging's higher frequencies. Humminbird has always had better side/down imaging anyway.

    Am I missing something?

I have to admit, that Mega imaging is pretty cool. I dont know how much it would improve your catch rate, but I still like it :)

Did you see G-mans demo? The high freq only goes out like 50 feet and then blackness.

With Winchester, want to see fish. Going to the panoptix an obstacle for users is getting over pretty images. My opinion the biggest advances in 2D sonar is the popularity of chirp, and forward view sonar and seeing live view around the boat.

Garmin has "ruled" the blue water market and will the same, inland lake markets. Since the 2330 flasher Lowrance has the edge with 2d sonar.

Bottomline had a side scan that I used for my ice fishing until switching to Panoptix. HB produces a finite number of units per model per year which I feel helps maintains price until discontinued. Demand preserves price....

the 7600 series is already the answer to them a year before they introduced it. the solix is simply a gen 2 onix with a new name to help sales. we have a big update coming in early 2017 for the 7600 series with some exciting features that may surprise you.

I was talking about the user interface more than anything else. Agree that finding fish is most important . Guess this forum is getting as sensitive as the Humminbird forum. Where as anything positive posted about anything but Garmin is immediately suspect. Whatever

And as far as the user interface, Garmin has had all those features, and more, for a long time as well. Multi-touch screens with buttons or no button or add-on buttons and fully customization screen layouts and combos, plus more networking and sharing features.

Humminbird does have the link to Minkota which is cool and they do have better sideview details, but Garmins have more range.

This is like arguing about Ford and Chevy trucks :)

Doesn't Garmin have a 16 inch and a 24 inch that is marketed towards saltwater? I could see them tweaking this for freshwater use and selling it to bass fishermen. I think Hackney had one on his boat last year.
