2001 225 Rude Ram light is coming on.

I am running a rebuilt 225 rude ram.
While running wide open the engine light will come on. It's not the oil, water pressure, or hot light. I have been forced to run with the light on due to a large amount of bass in my livewell trying to get back to weigh in. The light doesnt seem to hurt the overall perfomance. I was told that I should check the fuel filter. I guess if there is water in there it will set off the engine light.
Any truth to that? Any help would be appreciated.

You really need to have it hooked up to the diagnostic program to see what code is being set. If you do not address the problem then, as ChampionMan puts it, the internals become externals. Yes water in the fuel filter will sound the alarm!

It could also be a fuel restriction. Is the engine, lack of fuel could cause a hot cylinder.

Sorry Mike, hold those hands out in front of you so I can slap them with a wooden spoon.

There is no fuel restriction alarm in a FICHT or E-TEC, just on big carbureted motors.

Thanks for the info. I will have it hooked up to a diag machine to figure out the code. I have not ran this motor yet this year. I winterized it and took out the batteries. Will the code still be in the computer from last year or do I need to go and run it again to have the alarm sound?

Please post your findings, I have the same motor.
Another thing that will set off the alarm is a bad battery, if it isn't charging it will sound a horn. I had to hook up a trolling battery to fire the motor last year and switched them back once it was running, it sounded a horn while they were disconnected. i know now it wasn't a good thing to do but it got me back to the ramp.

I still have yet to have the code checked but I do have another question.
I used to run a 2000 225 ficht. It blew up and I put this 225 2001 rude ram on the boat. I really have not seen any more performance out of the Rude Ram over the regular FICHT. Should'nt I be getting more speed out of the boat than previously?
How much more HP does the HO have over the regular FICHT.

Whats interesting is that my boat ran the quickest it has ever right before the motor let go. They always say that they run real good before it comes apart.
