294 xl question on what to do???

I Have a 2007 294xl with a yamaha on it i have a 6" jack plate. I have been running the 25p factory prop. thats the way i got it and i was happy with the way it was set up. i was getting about 72 or 73 at about 5800 rpms. About 5 or 6 months ago i bent my shaft and the prop was dinged a bit so when they fixed the shaft i got the prop done also. I guess when they did it they took the cup out of the prop or something cause now im turning about 5600 going about 64 or 65. By my self i get about 66, 67. i am wanting a new prop i was gonna get a 26p fury do you guys think if i do that ill be seeing around 73- .....?? It just seems like i keep getting slower, i know the weather afects things but today i had a tourny and was fully loaded and was only getting 63 or 64 mph with the weather being about 60 all day. Also i think i might need to raise the motor up i know its not good to have a huge roostertail, but i dont have one at all. thanks for you guys input.

Re: 294 xl question on what to do??? (Team do work)

If they messed with the settings on the plate, I would try and get it bakc to where it was. Basically, set it at 3 in below pad and run it. If the prop is not what it was, send it to Mark Croxton to get it worked. I will tell ya though, Id be running at least a 26, at least, on that boat. I would also try and obtain a stock 25 like you ran to see if yours is the culprit. There's two options, and there will be more along in a minute I am sure

Im Sent to another 294 member to add to my list.

they didnt mess with the jackplate all they did was repair the shaft and they sent the prop to be fixed. i just think i should be getting better speed. Like i said i was getting (before i messed the shaft up 70-73) but it would walk real bad around 70 and i would have to drive out of it. Which i was ok with but now only getting 64 or 65 tournament speed im not ok with.

Try the motor @ 2.75 before you send the prop back in for work. it may be hooking up good and need raised. Anytime you have a prop worked you may need to adjust the setup some.

I dont think im going to get the prop worked again i was just going to buy a 26p fury. I should see better numbers with that than a factory 25p yam right??

I have heard good things about those Fury's on some 294's. I have heard that a 26 Fury is actually comparable to a 27 on a pitch guage.

I run 72-73 with the exact same setup but with a 27M

Re: 294 xl question on what to do??? (onemorecast)

well i guess my boat is set up different or something. i was at the place where i bought the boat yesterday seeing about getting a new prop. They let me take a brand new 25p fury to the lake which is only like 15min away and i got it up to 71(prolly could have got a lil more but it was very windy) but only was turning about 5500 or 5600 rpms. And it took forever to get it up to that speed. The problem i think i have is my jackplate. I have it up all the way, but i still need to come up some, cause i get no rooster tail at all. They told me i would have to buy a new jackplate and i really dont have the cash to do that. Im just going to buy a 25 temp, or another 25 factory yam.

What jackplate do you have and what dealer are you talking about. They dont sound very helpful.

i have a 6" hijacker. Its renegade marine in letchfield KY. I told them that most everyone i have talked to with the same setup is running 26 furys and getting anywhere from 72-76mph. When i first got the boat i could get 73 mph and ws fine with that. That was with my 25p yam. But everysince i got it redune its went to crap.

If its as high as it will go and your only hitting 5500 Rpms with a 25 Fury you have something more serious going on in my opinion.

Can the motor be raised a hole or 2 on the plate and then lower the plate if its topped out? Something aint right with the setup. you ought to be able to turn a 26-27p prop easy. Measure your prop to pad and let us know what it is and we can help ya better. You need to be somewhere around 2.5 to 2.75" below pad.

I wouldnt be real worried about not throwing a rooster tail. When you have good bow lift and your prop is hooked up you wont be throwing much of one at all. Do not get a 25p you need a 26 or 27p.

Re: 294 xl question on what to do??? (ep72)

ill measure it and let you guys know, but the way the boat is setup(this is the way it was when i got it) and i havent messed with except with the redoing the prop, it would do 74. I think im just going to leave it alone and buy a 25p tempest. If i could raise it up more i know i could prolly get more rpms turning a fury, but there is it up as high as it will go.

i know its not set up exactly right, but the cheapest way for me to get back up to that kind of speed like in the 70s is to buy a new prop like the one i originaly had.

If the shaft was replaced, is it possible the wrong shaft was used changing the gear ratio?
