    Prop & set up suggestions

I am new to posting here, but have read lots & lots & you guys seem great & maybe someone will know what prop I should be running. I have a 1987 181P stratos That underwent a cap off restoration & it's pretty nice (I could put some pictures up if I new how lol) & Thought I would go with a different motor. I have rebuilt & installed a carburated 2000 Johnson 150 with a 20PX14 1/2 Raker prop & a 6" cmc hydraulic jack plate Speedo says 58 mph rpm's 5800, w/ prop shaft 3 1/2" below the pad (followed directions posted here, many thanks..) motor trimmed up. I don't have a water pressure gauge, but it is on the way. My manual says motor should run 5500 RPM tops. I know a guy that has a 22PX14 1/2 raker for sale would it be better for my set up, or is everything wrong?
    Thanks allot

Re: Prop & set up suggestions (lsk)

Welcome to the Stratos forum. The 22 would surely be better than the 20, but the 24p is pretty much the standard pitch for the 150's.

Thanks for the reply, I may be stupid but I will ask anyway. Will the 150 turn a 24 on a 181?

Im not familiar with the 181, its an 18 ft'er right? If so it ought to, Its a heavy old boat so the 22 would also work if you rather go that route.

it is an 18' older boat, I think dry weight no motor was supposed to be 1200# & I would assume it is 2200-2400# loaded the way it is rigged with a couple passengers. I just don't know how many props my wife will let me buy trying to get it right. I guess I might have to get back to her honey do list to see. LOL

I still think a 24 is your best bet.
