Boyesen reeds in 2007 E tec 250 hp

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, it was suggested to me by a friend, who I think may live here, to ask the experts. So here I am. I have a 2007 Evinrude 250, model #E250DPSU serial # G 05168781. I just ordered some Boyesen power reeds for it and would like to know whats gonna be involved in installing them. I am hoping someone here may help with instructions, torque specs for the cage and intake, and part numbers for the needed gaskets. My local dealer is not any help and his price of $600.00 to install them, tells me he doesn't want to do it. I have installed them in older Mercs and Rudes along time ago, then went to sterndrives and lost the tech side for the new outboards, especially, the new E tec. So, any help, would really be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the boards, you should call BRP customer service and see if this has the potential to void your warranty before proceeding.

Thanks ChampioNman. I already have, I was told that if there were any failures, that the Boyesens may directly cause, that component, would not be covered. I thought about this before I purchased them and am really not concerned at this point. I never had any problems years ago, when running them. Could there be an incompatability with them in the E tecs?
    Thanks Again

Wow you have grande cohones' to do this. New power head is in the 8K range and if BRP says no to a failure your out that jack. but it is your motor. You probably won't notice and difference in performance as you may have seen in a carbed motor. Thus your dealers reluctance to install. There isn't much gain anyway only thing about the reeds is if one chokes and spits you don't take out a cylinder.

I've never heard or seen a smoother running engine than the ETEC. Why change something that good? JMHO

Yeah really, everyone that has done the Boyesens says it really only helps Midrange and low end, and hate to say it, the 3.3liter E-TEC only loses to one motor in that department....and its the 3.4liter Monster that they now make, man that thing sounds good when shes jacked up on the transom, talk about a mean sound....Brannon

I agree, its a fantastic running motor, however, from the dyno sheets I have seen, 12 horsepower and 650 rpm's on top, is pretty impressive. Thats another 2 pitches in prop. They also say midrange torque is greatly improved. I'm in a position where I am sort of pioneering this effort for a manufacturer, Manitou Pontoon Boats. But its on my dime. Right now, stock its running 59 GPS, with a 10" CMC hydraulic jackplate and running a 22 pitch Raker at 5800 RPM's. We are are trying to get into the low to mid 60's. I wish Second Effort was still alive. Like Yamaha and Hydro tec, but for right now Boyesens are the only aftermarket manufacturer to offer anything. Any and all ideas would be great. I'll hold off on the Boyesens for alittle while, just in case you guys or someone else has any other ideas.
Thanks Guys, I do appreciate and value your input!

All that just from reeds??? I find it hard to fathom. I'll defer to the gurus on this one.

    12 Hp, and 650 Rpms?

    From reeds?

I like boyesens, and use them, but I don't buy that. And I wouldn't put them in an Etec either.

Man look, its a miracle. Lj doesn't want to mod something, but I still am craving attention.

I can't see how could you make an ETEC any smoother than it already is?

That would be for Carbed motors Garland and not a DFI motor or an E-tec. But I'll defer to Lockjaw.

Re: Boyesen reeds in 2007 E tec 250 hp (ChampioNman)

Alright guys, I'm about to cave and sell them. But first, let me ask if anyone here has known anyone that has used them, if they helped or not. Seems like no one here, so far, knows much about them in the E-tecs, or they are afraid to try them.
Too bad. I was excited about trying them.
    Thanks anyway, guys!

i know in my carbed motor they were not noticeable..but i have ask one thing
if you can get 650 rpms from 12hp..why when i went from a 150 to a 200 on the same boat with the same prop did i not get a extra 2500 rpms??and i put in the boysens too on the 200..i'd leave it alone because if it blows regardless it will be their fault...

Hey BRydenshp, your runnin a sweet Toon, I sell Tahoe/Avalon which the owner of manitou used to be partners with Avalon then called Playbouy...anyways we have some of their 5x7 package toons, like your SHP just a hair diff..they are so bad ass, rippin across the lake at over 40 then rippin a right or left had corner so the outboard toon comes right out of the lake....why not get on board with BRP and test the new 300 HO, whoops I mean test the new 20inch 300, that would be sick on the back of a 22....I just did a 24foot rear fish with a used/demo 225ho and it was still $56,000 but it has subwoofers,enclosures,etc.....we also have a yellow sport package with a 250 HO that will be cool to test this summer...
