    Jack Plate on 294

Just bought a 08 294 and was thinking of adding a jack plate. What size jack plate should I be leaning toward Im running a 200 Opti Max with a 26 inch Tempest im running around 68 mph now and have more power left to give but the boat is wanting to start walking at that speed. Hoping a jack plate can cut out the walking the boat is wanting to do.How hard is the jack plate to install anyway is it a pretty cut and dry job just unhook the motor from boat and install jack plate and reinstall the motor.

A 6" plate is good for all around performance. They arent hard to install, just remember to reseal the bolt holes in the transom when reinstalling. It may be easier to have a marine shop install it for ya if you arent comfortable doing it yourself or you dont have access to a hoist and lifting ring for the motor.

with a 6" plate set the Opti @ 2.25"-2.5" below pad and the chine walk will be much much better to deal with.

I have an 06 and have been through everything you are dealing with. I went with a 6" plate at 2.5" below pad and couldn't be happier. It's much easier to control and performance is great. I'm turning the same prop as you too.

On a side note I would definitely have a shop mount the plate for me. It only cost me 1 hour of labor to get it done. That was well worth it to me!

Not looking for the speed just to get it out of chine walking for the most part.

Then a 6" plate set @ 2.5" will do what you want. These boats handle like crap @WOT with the motor set 3"and lower.

3rd hole up from the bottom is the way it came from the dealer.

The above post is the way to go. I would not even think about it.
