    Stratos 285 (2007 with 150 E-Tec)- Steering Issues

I have a 2007 285 XL with cable steering. I recently installed a 6" in jackplate on the boat. Engine is a 150 E-Tec. The steering is fine until I get to speeds greater than 45 mph, then it take two hands and a lot of effort to steer the boat. It isn't pulling one way or the other, just very tight and difficult to turn the wheel. Is this normal with cable steering? It was always "tight" even before the jackplate install, now it's very hard to steer at high speeds.
If this is normal with this type of horsepower and jackplate when using cable steering system, I may have to look at going hydraulic.

    Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

Yes, it would be normal. The addition of the jackplate would amplify any steering torque or hard turning while on plane. Hydraulic steering is the only way to go.
