    06 Etec aftermarket warranty?

I'm looking at a rig with an 06 Etec which has low hours and just came out of warranty. I have called BRP and cannot purcahse an extended through them. The dealer advises he can purchase an aftermarket warranty on this engine. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the 06 Etec something i shoudl be cautious of?
    Thanks

I've owned the '06 since it was new. It has around 75 hours (yeah, I don't use it but once a month) It has been VERY good and super reliable up to this point. I can't complain about 1 thing, nor should you be cautious. Just be sure to have it checked out by a certified mechanic.

Is it worth it? YES!!! Let us know what you find out about your aftermarket warranty. I am interested since mine came off recently.

When I bought my motor it had a year left of factory warranty. Now I'm on extended warranty and its not through BRP.

I just bought an 06 etec back in January. The guy I bought it from purchased an aftermarket warranty through Pinnacle. I have used them a few times and they seem pretty good to work with actually my mechanic deals with them I don't have to do anything. Not 100% sure on this but I was told on some of the major parts say like a power head you could end up getting a remanufactured one instead of a new one like you would under the original warranty. I think the biggest thing they want when you purchase the warranty other than money is all the maintenance records for the motor. As far as the 06 etec go's I have heard alot of good things about them and some bad. I unfourtantly I got one that has been through a lower unit and two power heads. Hopefully everything will be good now. When it is running it is a sweet running motor. If you post the model and serial number on here you will get some good help on if anything has been done to that motor. I received alot of good info. before I bought mine. I would not be cautious of the motor just do your homework before you buy any brand. Good luck

The bottom line is..."will the dealer do the necessary repairs for what the warranty company is willing to pay"...period. If this dealer is 'selling ' you the warranty he is in effect telling you he will go along with their payment schedule. There is usually an accompanying 'deductable' and the dealer fixes it and you are on your way. Only problem that may arise is a repair, if you are away from that selling dealer, done away from home. An out of town dealer may not want to go along with a lower than 'his rate' payment. But I wouldn't buy it with out a warranty.

I have had an 06 E-TEC for 3 years, not had any real problems. I have 4 years left on my aftermatket warranty but have not had to use it yet. My motor runs like a haint.

I'm not a fan of aftermarket warranties, if the warranty company goes belly up you get screwed. The only way you are likely to know your warranty is no good is when you do visit the dealer for a repair and they inform you the warranty is void. I worked with a guy that had that happen on his truck, went to pick it up expecting to pay the $100 deductible and instead had to pay for a $1K repair.

I have an 06 75hp E Tec with around 300 hours. I have had a few issues taken care of under warranty. There was a fuel filter recall in 06, my oil tank was leaking and had to be replaced last year and I had to have the throttle switch replaced this year. Overall I have been extremely happy with the motor. So to answer your question, no, the 06 E Tec is not something you should be cautious of...at least not any more than any other outboard. From my experience and reading the experience of other owners it is a very reliable motor.
