Search in the Restoration board. Many people have done their own and offered lots of good advice from purchasing to cutting the corners on the lids. Take some pics and make a post of yours as it progresses.

Re: need advice on replacing carpet in stratos (merc 280)

there are places online that sell precut 16 or 20oz carpet....for particular make/model of boats. If you decide to just buy carpet, BassCat carpet is known as the best. 20 oz, durable, easy to work with and many colors available. The sell it by the yard...

Look around on this site. They have bulk and pre-cut kits for a lot of Stratos and many others.

I have done the re-carpet thing on a couple of boats, you can do it in one weekend, you need a wire brush on an angle grinder to get the old glue off and a battery drill to take the lids off, the last stratos i did had locknuts holding the lids on so a drill really helps. if you do this outside make sure it's a hot day so the carpet will be warm when you put it down, then when its cools it will stay tight. a good glue to use is 3-m brand that comes in a spray can and ypu can buy it at Loews,[$10.00] it will take about 4 cans i think the cans are brown and red, it's easy to use and its drys pretty fast but you have a little time to adjust. the last boat i did was 3 years ago. i sold it and it stays outside now but the carpet is still in place. when you take off the old carpet notice how the corners are done, the inside corners are a little tricky. Good luck Troy W.
