1996 200 Venom with no spark

Guys, we need some help! A buddy of mine is working on my engine, and we've run into a snag. Can anyone take a look at his post on I-boats and see if you can help?

    http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=296320

We are down to our wits end, and scratching our heads! Thanks in advance!

The only thing that I can add to this is that we have installed these components on a re manufactured powerhead, and I also installed a new tachometer. I don't think the wiring to the tach would have any effect on the ignition. Thanks!

    Matt

Disconnect the harness at the motor. Take the pack off the stand offs and lean it back out of the way of the flywheel, and reconnect the grounds, Use a remote start button attached to the solenoid and try it again. Sounds like you pinched a kill switch wire or crossed the timer base wires.

I'll tell him and we'll try again on Monday. I saw the engine last night, he had the power pack off the posts as you mentioned, as if he had been testing it, and had a remote switch wired to the solenoid. So I'm not sure if he has already been working from that angle. I agree..somewhere we have a short or have lost a ground connection. The only problem is, if it is inside the powerpack, there is no way to know. This is our 3rd powerpack, if you include the my old one.

Before I brought it back to him, it would crank on the lake, but would intermittently die off. We had just put the re manufactured power head on, and I thought the carbs were out of adjustment, so I tried to adjust the low/idle speed jets. No luck. Twice I had it idling high, but when I'd give it throttle it would die off. I adjusted on it for 4 hours!! All I did was pull it up on the trailer, tow it to him, drop it off...he checked it the next day and discovers that I didn't have spark. The old timer base had some wear on the inside of it, so I definitely will be getting a new one, but not sure what shape my old power pack or stator is in..the old stator's output is a little low, and we aren't sure if somehow we have managed to burn up 3 power packs, testing these things. Are they easy to damage? Thanks again for your help, ChampioNman! So far, I want to , and I'm definitely lol

Did you use your existing fly wheel or did it come with one? If you used yours have him pull it off and make sure the woodruff key is on the crankshaft.

We used my old one, and from the best of my knowledge, he has used the old key. He's had to remove the flywheel a couple of times, to put the new timer base on once, and then another time to put the new stator on.

Have him make sure the TDC marks line up with #1 cylinder. If not he needs to pull the flywheel again and make sure the key didn't get sheared off or is missing.
