    Auto bilge

How does the auto bilge work on a 06 285? I tried to test it the other day by filling the bilge area with a water hose. I could not get it to switch on even after I filled the bilge almost to the batteries. I checked the fuse and it was good. I looked around, but I did not see any sort of switch or float.

Did you have the power switch on?

Tried it with the power switch on and off. Seems like it should work without the power switch on. What if you leave the boat in the water overnite? I would not leave the main power switch on then.

Do not know about your '06 285 but on my '06 201 ProXL the float switch and pump are located in very very bottom of the boat. I need to pull my batteries and net holder to lift up a hindged door. Under there is a nightmare of pumps and plumbing.

    Good luck!

Yea the pump runs when I flip the switch. Is there a possibility the bilge is manual only? Where would the switch/float be located?

    Re: (EDUBYA)

EDUBYA - my 2004 285PROXL did not come with a bilge pump float switch. If you have one, it will be separate from the bilge pump itself and will have a little knurled knob on the side you use to lift the float for testing. If you have nothing rectangular in the bilge, next to your round Rule bilge pump, you do not have a float switch installed - http://www.rule-industries.com...x.htm
I may be wrong, but I'll bet you have a 500-800 GPH round Rule bilge pump and these will not have an internal float or mercury switch trigger.

    Re: (Buccaneer)

I couldn't figure the whole " Auto Bilge" thing out either. There is a fuse in the rear compartment B+ on both sides. I never traced the wires either. I just purchased a pump with three wires and wired it in. B+ to one wire (works with the float) one wire to ground and the other to the switch on the console. I just put a 5amp in-line fuse to both B+ wires. So far it works mint. It is absolutely amazing on how much water a night of rain will put in your boat. I always check the operation of the bilge pump every time out...ya never know

You are right Buccaneer. No auto bilge in my boat. Just a 800 gph pump. Do you know if there is a lead in the boat's wiring harness to plug the float switch into?
