    ETHANOL

a buddie of mine says he runs e85 in his new Tahoe and it runs like a raped ape. though his milaege suffers, but the performance is awesome. How come we can't get the same advantages in our 2 strokes? i realize our motors are not designed for e85, but wouldn't 10% help too.

Because it will eat your boat and motor up from the inside out on the fuel system. The setup is ONLY rated for E-10. It will be a pile of musshy gooo in a mater of hours. The engines can be made to run on E-10, but it will not do any good unless the boat manufacturers want to spend a LOT of money designing a fuel system for about 2% of the total boating public.(in the U.S).If you think there is a lot of moisture in E-10, you should see what E-85 can pull in in a day!!! E-10 is way below what technitians would like to see running in a 2 stroke. Compared to fuel we ran in the 70'-80's, the stuff we burn today is "FLAT". The Tahoe is designed for torque, then the timing is fudged with to "make" it burn E-85. It really isn't worth the fuel loss. This means more revolutions just to get you a mile. A good fuel, Aviation type etc, would get us all there a little quicker with less revolutions. Aviation type fuel works real well on cleaning the exhaust. HOWEVER, do not run Aviation in your boat motor, it will kill it, you would have to do some serious mods to get it right. The govmnt' needs to just give us a GOOD fuel that does'nt cost soo much in repair and mileage. It's not much of a payoff when you have to work the engine MORE to get some where. You still make MORE exhaust. Even if it does make Al Gore happy!!!

+1 MY Tahoe vehicle is set up to run on E85. I filled up with it once and will never do it again and I certainly would never put it in my boat for all of the reasons that rudetech1 states. I cringe even thinkin' that the gas I'm pumping into it maybe E10... though I know the motor will handle it in the short run, I worry 'bout the long term effects and add an additive to absorb the H20.

Those particles DO NOT pass safely thru the system. Each little water particle that comes in contact with a plated, non plated, unprotected part will corrode it. It does'nt really matter if it is bonded with another sub particle. It will help the burn, but can and will damage those parts if left in contact for even a small lenght of time. Startron works pretty well, but it is just another way of masking a larger issue! I like the pictures, they help with the water particle anology!!! Good link!!!! I really feel bad for those carbureted 4 strokes. The ones I have to rebuild carbs on in a weekly to monthly basis. The accelerator tubes get blocked with just one heat soak!!! Fuel additive is a MUST!!!!
