I did this a few weeks ago, and I like it alot better than having it on the ram mount. I did't feel comfortable with 2 grand hanging out there like that!

Nice job. And you can still tilt the unit up and down if you need to adjust for glare.![]()

Yes I can tilt the unit if I need to, but I haven't notice a problem with glare like I did when I had it mounted on the ram mount, maybe because I am closer to the unit. I used the gimbal mount that came with my 997. I cut my dash plate and then I cut the hole out to make a recessed box for my gimbal mount to bolt to, the recess is 2-1/2" that gave me room for the plug in the back, still able to tilt the unit, and I can take the unit off when ever I need to and I can tilt the steering wheel. I came real close to making it a flush mount, but I really like the fact I can take the graph off. I wish Stratos would make thier new boats dash be more friendly to the bigger graphs. But if the don't, I guess when it's time (I hope sometime next year)to get another boat, I will just have to do little redneck engineering!

I want the same thing! wish I was an engineer... mine has a face plate were the x52 was... its not like the fuel and speed guages work properly, sure could do without those taking up space and having a better graph in your face like that.
Yea I like it alot better, but on some of the newer Stratos boats I don't know if I could have done this or not. The dash panel on my 04' is flat, so it made it easy to do, but the other boats have more curves and contours on the dash panel so I think you could do one it would just take a little more effort. And second that, the speedo is worthless, but I don't think I would lose the fuel gauge, just might have to relocate it.
I don't want to loose the fuel guage permanently just get one that is accurate. I think my Lowrance has a connector where you can monitor the fuel levels with a sensor installed. Also, I see what you saying about the newer dashes, mine has a slight curve too it that would make it interesting but I believe its do-able.
