I have a 2006 etec 150HO E150DHLSU Ser # 05161005. Do I have to use evinrude HPF? Or can I use Pennzoil? What SAE rating? Not sure if I have an L or X model. One takes 33 oz the other 44 oz. Anyone got a clue?
Will using a different gear lube void my warranty?
33 oz. of lube will do for your gearcase.
You can run any lubricant you want to it's your motor.
A gearcase only costs about $ 3.000 +
That said, why not use BRP lower unit oil?
Not many evinrude dealers in my area. Wanted to get something at Walmart or Autozone. They are right around the corner. Closest evinrude supplier is 20 miles.
20 miles? My dealer is 300 miles round trip! I'd be willing to ride my bike 20 miles!
Like Sportwin said, LU is $3000.00. I'd spend the money to get the Evinrude oil. Pretty cheap insurance.
I run the Merc oil in mine. Silver bottle with yellow on the front. Its good stuff. I got some of the E-rude on order though. Thought since I was getting new drain plugs and gaskets might as well try it out.
I would get a good semi-synthetic if you aren't going to run the E-rude. Or synthetic.
