    Tach not Working

Hi, New here to this forum. Hopefully someone can help. I have a 2000 Stratos 17 Vindicator with a 2000 Evinrude Ficht V-6 150 HP. My tachometer is not working.
Is there a way to test the tach? Or is a possible wiring problem. I think the grey wire is the Tach signal wire. Thanks in advance!

    Re: Tach not Working (stratos17)

I found this to help when I had a problem with my 1999 200 evinrude. I had to replace the stator and regulator/rectifier assembly. http://www.bwbmag.com/output.cfm?ID=942823

    Re: Tach not Working (partyof5)

Thanks for the help. I think I know what is wrong, maybe you can help again. In the battery compartment there is a purple wire just hanging out. Could this be the power wire for the tach? Sorry for not knowing this . I purchased this boat last year in a bank repo. It had no batteries in it. Everything else works so I just left that purple wire hangin. Thanks

Same thing with mine. I may try to replace it this year.

This link may help a bit
    http://continuouswave.com/whal....html

The purple is a 12volt accessory wire, black is ground, and grey is the tachometer signal. These wires for sure go to the tachometer.

Does your tach move at all when you turn the key?

    Chris,
The needle doesnt move at all. I checked it today, I have battery voltage to the purple wire and I have ground. I havent yet checked the grey wire for a signal. I'm pretty sure the tach is junk.
