I have an 06' 294 with 200 h.o. you should get 72-75 mph. I think my 294 is a great all around boat, just really wish I had tandem trailor.
I bough a 08 about 5 months ago i have a 200 hpdi and i love it but i was in a 17' with a 115. the only issue i had with the boat has been covered on a post below this one the trolling motor and rod locker. I think the boat has a great ride and will jump out of the hole. I am not saying it is the best but i am really happy with it and will have it for many years.![]()
All mine get 76 ish. Some get closer to 80 but all the stars have to line up correctly!

I have two different friends with a 294 that get low to mid 70s which is pretty common.
I am not saying it is impossible but 76 is faster than the normal average and 80 is smokin. I do know a guy that has an early 2000ish model 295 which is pretty much the same hull as the 294. He can GPS over 80 but...he is not running a stock set up.
Is the 76 and 80 numbers you are refeering to from a stock set up. If not let us in on the secret/set up to get over the 75mph range with a stock set up![]()
im running 77's with my 294 evo with a 200 hpdi. im all stock as well.
76 in mine with a 26 Raker B&B by Mark, you better hold on![]()

The secret is the dealer........plain and simple. None of my customers limp along at 70.
All boats and engines are box stock........there are boat dealers and then there's C&O.
Todd,
Is the 76ish with the 200 etec ho or 200 yamaha hpdi? What will the 200 optimax run while we are at it?
thanks,
LC
geebass,
Start with a 27 Tempest on that boat/motor. Your boat has the capability to run 75+ once it is set properly. Some speed differences come from not so perfect props and people loading their boats differently.
Once you have done that, come back with more of your setup and performance information and we can help you dial it in from there.
Kenneth
The Opti is the slowest.....but not by a huge amount. The HPDI has the most potential. The ETEC HO and HPDI are about the same.
I got mine from C & O and it ran 76 with Todd driving and almost empty. Tournamnet loaded I run anywhere from 72-74 depends on how much crap the co brings.

mine(2007 with 200HO etech)goes 72, but I don't have a jackplate. I don't need to go any faster.
I'm going down today to pick up my new 08 294 .I'm getting out of a skeeter zx185 which I was very disappointed with.If I can get over 70 I'll be very happy!!I'd love to get mid 70's but I'm going to have to invest in a hyd jackplate.
hey man i was wondering how you get that speed out of a 200 i have an 07 294 with a 200vmaxhpdi with the vmax 25 pitch prop and 6 inch jack plate i cant get mine to run but 69 with out chinewalking any suggestions would be appreciated
need a bigger prop and learn how to overcome the chine walk these boats are fast
If you can't do your part, the boat can't do it's part.

Hey Todd, what did u mean when you siad...."The HPDI has the most potential." When you say the most potential, what has to be done to get that potential. Just curious!!
Not speaking for Todd, but the HPDI has the best lower unit design for that hull. The HPDI can be raised up higher due to the low water intakes providing better performance. (you can jack it up pretty high and still keep enough psi) The extended shape of the lower unit "bullet" provides excellent lift. The HPDI and ETEC HO will not need trim extenders since they have more positive trim range. So, as far as stock motors go, the HPDI is a great choice. Good torque, great top end.
Of course, one could always add on some Hydro-Tec goodies. . . .![]()
