04 etec parts

i just picked up a 40 hp 2004 etec with a jet pump on it.it runs absolutly sweet!however the previous owner somehow let the engine go to far to one side-turning with a tiller handle-and the lower engine cover is broke in one spot.i looked online and found this piece to be ridiculously expensive!like 625 bucks!im hoping someone knows of a better place to buy this.thanks!

Ridiculously expensive is an understatement. I am a Evinrude dealer and I cannot believe in some of these prices. Your best bet would be to find a salvage engine. To make it worse BRP made design changes in 2006 or 2007 to the cowlings, the old style will not fit with the new style.
