Looks like the clearvu is dropping 50/77/200????
I think ClearVü is Garmin's new name for down view. Look at their website, the models that used to be ##dv are now ##cv. There's no way they're dropping traditional sonar/depthfinder capabilities.

What happened to DownVü? Does ClearVü/CV replace it?

ClearVü is the new name for the fishfinder presentation that was previously called DownVü, and CV refers to the new transducer design offered by Garmin. ClearVü technology replaces DownVü and though the technologies are similar, when paired with a CV transducer, ClearVü will provide a wider image than DownVü.
I have an existing product with DownVü. Do I have ClearVü now too?

The functionality provided by your Garmin transducer will not change. ClearVü will replace the DownVü feature on existing products after a software update is installed.

Does ClearVü offer the same functionality that DownVü offered? Is it better?

For combo units that include a transducer in the box, ClearVü transducers offer a wider view of what’s under the boat. This wider view will provide more detail of fish and structure beneath the water, but is more limited in depth performance.

I’m a current customer, why did my DownVü change to ClearVü?

With so many scanning sonar technologies available in the market today, this change is being made in an effort to further differentiate Garmin technology from our competitors.

I just recently watched a video from Lowrance as to why Garmin changed the name of from down vu to Clear vu, because Garmin refuses to buy the rights to Down scan TM technology, they can't employ true downscan in their transducer... they have no down facing element in it, they use a simulation program to create their Clear vu image from the inside signals received from their side scan cones. Very disappointed to find this out as I was planning to buy one of the new Garmin Echomaps, go to utube look up Lowrance down scan vs. Garmin Clear Vu

I've seen the video. Its a nice propaganda piece. Don't believe everything you see. Much like the Chevy vs Ford aluminum bed test.
I have a HB 798 at the helm right next to my 93SV. They both see the same images. The Garmin image in Chirp is much better that the HB. The Garmin isn't missing anything.

The big deal is all about which transducer you ended up with. If you buy a unit that has a bundled transducer included, then it will come with a CV transducer - CV40, CV41, CV52, etc

ALL of the CV transducers do NOT have a true down element, so they have to stitch portions of the sidevu images together to create the down image.

This is not as good as having true down imaging with a dedicated down element in the transducer.

If you bought an older combo, or an mfd and transducer as separate items rather than in a package, it probably came with a GT40, GT41, GT52, etc. All of the GT transducers DO have a true down element and will work just fine.

If you have a GT transducer you are not effected by this issue.

Been looking for a new gps/sonar with si technology, was seriously considering the Garmin Echomap 73sv when I viewed a utube video, showed info that the Garmin doesn't have true down scan capabilities, because they wouldn't purchase the rights from Navico, the parent company of Lowrance, so their clear vu tech is a computer generation of the inside lobes of the side scan signal, to simulate the down scan image... Doing this causes the true down scan image to loose true information and details, so I'm really bummed to find this out, as their units are cheaper and I loved the clear crisp graphics...😟
