    Garmin 93SV questions

I am looking at a used 93 SV. It comes with a GT40 transducer and not the GT52. He says that it is a chirp unit, but I thought that they were supplied with the GT52. Am I wrong and if so what is the down side of the GT40 vs the GT52?

I thought all the CHIRP 93sv's came w/GT52. Mine did. Thought that was one of the selling points. I can't offer anything further as I have no experience there. There are a couple 3 or 4 regulars here who could provide info. Call CS and ask. They are great about providing data, usage, etc.

My non-chirp came with the GT40, I don't think GT40 handles CHIRP 2d. It does have chirp downvu/sidevu, maybe that's what he means?

Yes, the non-CHIRP echoMAPs did ship with the GT40. The GT40 traditional sonar is 77/200 kHz (not CHIRP).

The current specs on0line say the chirp version can be ordered with the GT52 or the "Clearvu" transducer at a reduced price. I cant find a number or any other info on what the "clearvu" transducer acualy is.

Maybe you could get the seller to give you the serial number, then call customer spport and ask them which version it is.

I would hold out for a chirp version. I think it is really worth the difference.

I am thinking that I will just wait for the new units to be announced and hopefully the current Chirp units will be discounted. If i recall Garmin usually has new units every two years and release them around March. I am not in a hurry.

I sent support an email asking about the differences between the two transducers. When I look at the different models there is no difference in price.

Interesting. When I looked at it before the GT52 price was higher than the clearvu price. Looks like they have lowered the price from what it was.

If it is correct (and i have seen similar prices at other sites) maybe a new series from Garmin is coming out in March (a 12" unit!). The one in th ad says it comes with a GT52 and it is listed as a Chirp unit.

Well, if Garmin has lowered the retail price, then that Hodges Marine deal isnt quite as good as it looked. Still not bad though. Id shop around some more. Sounds like maybe Garmin has taken these OFF of the MAP pricing.

I haven't found a better price yet. It sure sounds like Garmin is planning on some new stuff coming to replace the 93SV at the least. They have held MAP pricing since the 93SV was introduced.

Unbelievable price. May be in response to Humminbird dumping the Onix 8 units for $999 on Cabelas. This puts the 93sv units well below that. And it does Panoptix.
My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.

Having dealt with Garmin as a dealer I can honestly say they don't seem to worried by what others are doing. This isn't always for the better it seems to me but they are fairly consistent.

This is the reply I got from Garmin Support about the transducers.
