Z19 Performance update...

I thought I would chime in on how the Z19 is doing. I recently raised the motor (200 proXS) up some. Originally, it was set at 4-1/2" below pad. I have raised it 1-1/2", so right around 3" PTP, took her out yesterday and opened it up on perfect conditions. With the 25P Fury, top speed was 69.6 gps (steady), at 5600 rps and max trim. Rooster tail is mid way up the motor I would say. 1/2 tank of gas, fully loaded, with me only at 225 lbs. Water pressure was 25+ psi.. Will raise a little more and report back. Curious about anyone else with Z19 set-up information????

KCLOST, I'm following your reports closely and have the same rig but have not moved the jack plate from the factory set-up yet. I am getting some chine walking and am curious how you keep it under control. Thanks for the info and keep up the reports!

I pick mine up from Pro's Choice in mid October. I would be happy to see those same numbers.

Controlling/preventing chine walking takes practice/seat time. Some set-up changes will help lesson the effects, some claim that different props help as well. In my case, raising my motor is not going to help much, it may actually make it worse (but I didn't notice that). The more speed and lift you have, which is what I am trying to achieve, is what increases the condition of chine walking. The small area of the pad that is in contact with the water, you need to balance the boat so it stays on that pad and doesn't try to fall off, which is what chine walking is. If left unchecked it will fall to the left, right, then back left, right, get worse to the point of being out of control, you know what I mean. Steering corrections at the right time is the key. In the beginning stages of chine walk, small quick steering in the opposite direction of the leaning of the boat is all that is needed. If you see or sense it going to the left make a small quick correction to the right. Not enough to turn the direction of the boat, just enough to keep the hull level. I usually make my correction always to the right, one correction early is all that is needed and the boat will be steady for a little while until it starts to walk again, when another correction is needed. With practice, before long you will be making the corrections without even thinking about it. My last 3 boats all chine walked, Z19, Stratos 200xl, Triton TR20. I learned how to control it on the Triton, which was one of the worst chine walkers of the big name boat brands. Once you learn it, you will be able to drive anything. Just take it slow, meaning start your learning at the slowest speed at which the boat will chine walk. Prevention is the key! If anyone ever wants to meet me on the lake sometime, I will be happy to help...

U need to know what your Prop 2 Pad measurement is. u should start around 3.5" below pad if u have a JP. Raising the motor generally improves chine walk, but not in all cases.

BMCD is right..... I however did not notice any difference after raising.. Forgot to add that we increased about 100 rpms and 1.5 mph.

Chitterling, what kind of RPMs are you getting at WOT?

Prop to pad is 5.25". I run 5600 RPM and 68mph on the dash speedo WOT. My Z19 came with a Fury 25pitch prop. I'm getting a little chine walk as I accelerate and some porpoising as I decelerate.

Start at 3.5" below pad. 5.25 seems very low. Make sure your measuring it right.

I have never adjusted anything on my Z19 (200ProXS and Fury 24) and sounds like I am experiencing the same problems. I am still learning about the set up and everyone I talk to has different opinions but they also have not drove m boat. I have absolutely no rooster tail and GPS 68.1. I have tried to tell guys that it feels like it is falling off pad but they said if it was it would be out of control. I don't feel like it is but the boat has a ton of movement in it. Tried to correct like someone has said above but have no luck. I will measure sometime and see where I am set up at but currently I am not for sure where Pros Choice has it. So you guys have raised it and increased speed and drivability?

Speed yes, maybe a little better drivability..... Still have mine at about 3" below pad, repeated the 69+ mph this last weekend. I may want to try a different prop. I would like a little more bow lift, but part of the reason why is because that is what I am used to coming out of a Stratos 200 and Triton TR20.... The Fury prop, based on what I have learned, gives the stern good lift but not necessarily the bow. Might try a Tempest to see what happens.

I've ran a 25 and 26 Fury on my Z20 (250 Pro XS) and the 25 Tempest is better for my setup. You may benefit from the Tempest. I'll be running a 26 Tempest this weekend as well to see how that pans out.

Thanks DB, you want to roll to KC and let me try that 25 Tempest out?? I do have a piece of crap 25P Lazer II as a back-up. I just need to bite the bullet and get a Tempest, which ever one (Tempest or Fury) performs the worst will be my new spare...

Hey if you are on some biting fish I wouldn't mind it a bit LOL. Things are tough here with all this summer weather in Oct! You are right though...browse the boards and pickup a 25 tempest for $300 and you may have a winner or a least you'll have a great back up prop. These Z boats are heavy for their size and the tempest with the larger diameter seems to carry the weight better IMO. Felt like I couldn't get the boat out of the water with the Fury props 25 or 26.
