Check engine light

I've got a 1996 Johnson 150 fast strike, that's had a check engine light on for about a year. At first it was intermittent, now on all the time, idle, WOT and anywhere in between. It's on a 96 Javelin 389se. Runs great, smokes a little until warmed up. SHould I worry about the light?

Older OMC's check engine light only works for 2 reasons.....a short or a fuel flow issue.

Usually a fuel flow issue.....have it seen about immediately.
