keelguard help

i just purchased a keelguard for my 2007 285XL and was wondering if anyone could tell me how far to start running it from the bow eye. I know it says to start 4 to 6 inches above the water line but i'm nt sure where the water line is without taking it to the lake. any pictures or suggestions would be great!

I had an '04 285 with a Hamby's heavy duty that was installed by the dealer. This pic might give you an idea. Hope it helps.
