Which boat would you purchase?

I'm in the market for a new to me boat and am tossing between two models I've found. Both are a bit of a drive for me, The stratos is 1.5hr the javelin is 2.5hrs.

Question is simple, which boat would you purchase and why? Both are basically the same price.

The first is a 97 stratos 268v with 115 merc

I'd go for the Jav Venon 17 w/Johnson 90. I've not ridden in the 268 so I can't give you a fair review. I had many good trips out in my buddies 17 venon. It's got a good ride and an open layout. Plus its a little newer.

I highly recommend a test drive before buying.

i would guess just by looking at the carpet that the stratos wasnt taken very good care of

What type of speeds could I expect out of both?

I'm not completely concerned w/ going super fast, but its just a basic question.

It's obvious that both boats are in very good shape and well cared for, that's what makes the decision tough. The javelin is newer, but has a johnson 90 and is a further drive. The stratos is closer, and has a merc 115 so it has a more desireable motor, but it is a bit older and doesn't look like it is in quite as good of shape as the javelin.

One thing to consider is the 268 will have a LOT more knee room than the Javelin. The console layout is better IMO also. If you have any height to your stature you will appreciate the seating/console design of the Stratos. The 268 rides surprisingly well for a little boat, it fishes well too. A 115 pushes it very well (too bad its a 115 Merc instead of a 115 vindicator, I had a 130 Looper on mine and it was a rocket).

I would go with the Javelin or my Ranger! The javelin looks like it was cared for better.

i like the jav, one of my freinds has the same boat ,rides good also looks as it has been taken good care of. but of course go out in them, sometimes looks can fool you.

If your patient you can surely get more boat for the money. Good luck I would go with the Javelin.
