    1999 evinrude 150 hp v6

I tried to post this under the motor forum, but it said i wasn't logged in?? i have a 99 javelin renegade 18. my question is what brand of oil does everyone use?? the dealer recommends evinrude oil 50, Does everyone use the recommended oil or is it the name your paying for?????? ( i use a different brand of oil on my snowmobile) I'm fairly new to using outboards. If any body can recommend a oil other than evinrude that would be great!!!I know the evinrude oil is expensive, but if its what i should use I can't complain

    Thanks for the reply

I run the BRP XD50. I like how it runs and I think it smokes less too. I have run the XD25 but I think the 50 is worth the extra cost. If you shop around you should be able to find a good price...around $20 a gallon.

How long does it take to burn through the oil???? do you have to completely refill oil tank after everytime you fill up or does the oil outlast the gas?? I'm new to this size of outboard, my last one was a 18hp and you had to mix the oil with the gas

    Re: 1999 evinrude 150 hp v6 (Lockjaw)

I assume my motor was broke in on OMC oil. I have no idea what the dealer put in there when they rigged it to go home. As soon as the reservoir got low it was filled with Pensoil 100% synthetic. It only had a couple gallons of that run trough it. That is what I was told buy the original owner when I bought it in 01 with 62 hours on the motor.

When I took ownership I let the reservoir get low. I have ran Amsoil HP injector every since I took ownership. The motor now has 500 plus hours and I have had zero issues with Amsoil

If you had a motor that was under warranty I would use XD-100 it is a 100% synthetic oil. No warranty Amsoil Hp Injector I pay $23 a gallon and Amsoil is 100% synthetic.

Your 99 Evinrude is a Direct Injection motor. Most people will agree that they do preform well on XD 50 which is a 50/50 blend of conventional oil and synthetic oil. If you want the best oil go with a 100% synthetic like XD 100 or Amsoil HP Injector

    Re: 1999 evinrude 150 hp v6 (raiderck3)

I fair more on the safe side with my '99 Ficht and run XD100. Sure it's expensive but they really don't burn a lot of oil. With the Ficht I don't take any chances with carbon buildup and the XD100 burns clean. This is the only oil I have ever ran and there is zero smoke when I start it up...I've even had people ask me if it was a 4-stroke.

    jlong,

how often do you have to add oil?? How about your boat- does the 150 push it along good?

    Re: 1999 evinrude 150 hp v6 (raiderck3)

I've been through probablly 2 gallons in 6 months, that's roughly $12 a month which is not that bad. Mine is a 200 so the 150 would use a little less I'm sure.

Since I have a 99 150 Rude I will chime in on this one. I have had my boat for 7-8 years and in the past I have purchased my oil buy the case (4 gallons to a case). In a normal year I burn 4 gallons but I fish often. Last year with the extreme heat and drought I did not go as much and still have 1- 1/2 gallons left from last years case. You will have to run a lot to go through more than 4 gallons a year

    Re: 1999 evinrude 150 hp v6 (JR19)

I think the average fuel to oil ratio is 50 : 1 on an average carb 2 stroke outboard. I don't know if EFI changes that ratio. My R19 has a 43 gallon fuel tank. On the average based on fill ups I burn about 1 gallon of oil for every 50 gallons of fuel. Last year I think I went through 3 to 3.5 gallons of oil.

To answer your question, raiderck3, I put oil in every time the low oil alarm comes on!

    Re: 1999 evinrude 150 hp v6 (cfruel)

Lets see 3.5 x 43 gallons= 150 gallons in a year???? and 2 gallons of oil a year ???? Did you say"but I fish alot"....lol . We'll run thru 25 gallon in a day most of the time and use our boats couple times each week 50 week of the year with at less 4 weeks having 5 days in a row. I had my 1st johnson from 1993 till 2006 running on pensoil synthetic blend. ADD IT UP 16 YEARS OF TROUBLE FREE WIDE OPEN RUNNING OR HOURS OF TROLLING. May have used 3 gallons of factory brand oil. Put a new factory power head on it and hope to get 10 more years at less out of it. Grainte this is not an injected engine or 4 stroke and I'm not sure if I owned one of them that I would use anything but full synthetic.
    Good Luck!

    Re: 1999 evinrude 150 hp v6 (Frank A)

Try the Xd100 and see if it doesn't run better. I will bet you money it does.

I bought 2 gallons last year and drained my tank, and refilled it. I don't fish that much, so the cost isn't as much as issue as the cleaning and not needing to decarb. It does smoke, but not as much, and the engine runs ALOT better.

Just for giggles I premixed some for my 2 stroke power tools. What a difference. My stinking Husqy edger runs like a raped ape now.

What lake are you going to that often all the way from Monroe? How many tow vehicles do you go through in a year? lol
