Question regarding trailer brake regulations for Pa

How many boat owners in Pa with dual axle trailers have brakes on both axles? this was discussed at great length on the Allison forum a while back about Pa regulations stating that both axles must have brakes if the trailer is a dual axle trailer. So I was wondering that if evrry dealership in pa orders their boats from each boat company with brakes on both axes??

I do not. Something I should do in the future just because the boat is much heavier than the last one.

Joe, is your boat stopping fine without the second axle? Can you feel it hold the truck back when you brake? If so then leave it

Brakes on both axles is a good idea in Pa. because it's the LAW. I had to add brakes on 2 trailers. It's about $1200. If I have to do it then I think you should also. mm

I bought mine in Kentucky and they only order brakes on 1 axle. We had to call the factory and add brakes to the other axle

    Regulations are
#1 ANY trailer with more than 1 axle must have brakes on ALL axles reguardless of GVW
#2 Any trailer with a GVW of 3,001 and higher must have brakes.
Most dealerships order with them on 1 then up charge during the sale for the second set, puts money in service dept.
You could have a potato chip light boat on a tandem cause it looks "cool" but it needs brakes to be legal. I do know at Erie and Raystown they walk the lot and write tickets while ur out on water for not have valid state insp also.

That has never happen to me.but I guess it could.I think the real problem happans in case of a accident. Insurance companies probably not going to pay a clam if your trailer doesn't have a current inspection sticker. They will always look for a way not be pay.I myself don't not have brakes on second axle...yet. or a valid inspection sticker.should I YES. So I accept the fact that it may be on me if something happens. JMO.

Next thing you know, Pennsylvania's going to be regulating the Amish of Lancaster County to add 4 wheel hydraulic brakes to their horse drawn carriages.

How bout it!! Not just pa, regulation seems to be the way of the future in all aspects of your life.. Makes me sick!!! That's my next step, starting an exempt compound.
