I went with the Dual Axle on mine. I think it would be better on anything 19ft and up. I also thought it looked better.![]()
bigbob,
I've run a single axle trailer on a 285, followed by a double axle on the 294 - both towed by my F150. The double axle trailer is definitely smoother on the road, and I'd assume that it's safer if a wheel ever goes AWOL.
Towing the double axle (and the heavier boat) definitely uses more gas. I dunno about you guys over there, but each time I fill up nowadays I feel that the operator should have a black balaclava on and be pointing a sawn-off shotgun off me.
Cheers,

I was leaning towards the dual for the simple fact that I've had a few blow outs on my single axle , 18'6 procraft. Just like most I spend alot of time on the highway. Thanx for your help![]()
I've got a double on my 294 and think it runs down the road a lot smoother than a single axle would. Also agree with you it looks a lot better.
I had the single and it towed really well you should never have a problem towing with the single....however I think the double looks better and there are some obvious advantages to have a dual but the single is still easy and fairly smooth when towing
I had a Champion 198 with a single axle. I made a hard right turn to get onto a busy highway one day. I couldn't turn wide. The right wheel fell off the edge pavement in the turn and the frame and axle hit, bending a cross member and the axle shackle bolts. I drug the crossmember across the pavement till the wheel caught back on the pavement. It was just a little corner where the two roads met and it wasn't that deep. A dual axle trailer would have "walked" across the gap in the pavement. From that point on, I've always had dual axle trailers.
For those that have garage space limitiation and feel a dual axle can't be manuevered like a single axle, I use go-jaks (dollies) on the first axle.

I have a single and it is perfect for putting in the garage and moving around to fit... it hauls well and have never had a problem.
I think the duel looks alot better but the single was more practicle for me.
I had a single on my 295 and it was all over the road. I now have a double on my 195 (same hull) and its like a cadillac. I don't even know its back there. I'm never getting a single axle trailer again.

Have a single on my 294. Tows straight as an arrow and is easier to move around.
cant beat a dual axle!! looks and pulls alot better and it takes alot of shock out of the boat on all these bumpy roads. i also have the road armour finish on mine. it will never chip off or rust!!
