Question on seal in lower unit

On the driveshaft bearing housing (under the water pump), do the 2 seals go with the flat side against each other? While I was replacing the pump, I went ahead and put seals in too. When I took it apart, it only had one seal in the bearing housing, so I put it back together with only 1 and I got water in the oil right after running it on muffs. I noticed on a parts diagram that it shows 2 instead of 1. Of the 2 seals in the kit, 1 is made different than the other as that the rubber in the seal protrudes out farther than the other seal. Does it need to go in first or should it be on top? It also had the oem type seal I believe in the kit. I heard they were bad about leaking though. I ordered a manual but it won't be in till the end of the week and the fish are waiting on me now...lol

We will need a model and serial number to better answer your question but if you had one seal you should only use one seal.

With a model number we can give you the part number of the upper bearing housing that will accept two seals and work on your gear case.

The seal that is flat looking goes in first, the protruded one goes on top, facing up. Remember, the springs in the seals face the fluids. The one piece seal in your kit is an alternative. They are good, but prone to move up and out on you during use. I would recommend the 2 separate one's with some sealer on the outer perimeters of both. Hope this helps. E.P.
