    Questions on livewell controls

What is the difference between the recirculate and the auto setting on the livewell switch that is near the drivers seat on my 2005 286XL? When would you use one versus the other?

Also, I have two areate switches on the left side of my console. One says "Main Aerator" with auto and manual indicators and the other is a "Aux Aerator" with auto and manual controls. What is the difference between these and when would you use one versus the other?

Also, the other night, after filling the livewell using the manual setting, rather than use the main areator auto switch I used the Aux switch in the auto mode and it overfilled the livewell and water came running out of the lids and into the bilge area. Is something wrong here?

The boat did not come with an owners manual, but I have one on order.

Thanks in advance for the help and advise.

Re: Questions on livewell controls (Stratos286)

I had the same issue this weekend. I have four pumps, two to each livewell. One pump wouldn't run at all and the other three would only run in auto. The livewells would fill up and run out the top on the backdeck. Nothing ever came out of the overflow hole. Guess I'll be making a trip to the dealer.

Re: Questions on livewell controls (Bowdrie)

I have the same issue. When my livewell is set to resirc and i have it on manual to keep the flow going, It floods out of the top and does not go out of the overflow. ?

With the heat down here, in my other boat i would fill the livewell set it on resirc add ice and an additive and keep it running to prevent the fish dying. My stratos does not seem to work that way. On resirc it keeps adding new water thus overfilling it. I thought it was suposed to just keep cycling the old water ?
    Any input would be appreciated.

Do i have to close of the intake ?

Re: Questions on livewell controls (DerekL)

On my '04 285 Pro XL.

One switch/pump gets it's suction from the lake. The other switch/pump gets it's suction from the livewell.

If valve is in recirc, it will overflow the lids if on the pump bringing in lake water. Use recirc pump when valve is in recirc.

If valve's in auto use either pump. Valve in auto on lake pump should not overflow. Valve in auto on recirc pump, your just recirculating the livewell.

My empty position on the valve just drains the livewell. It doesn't put the livewell water to a pump suction. It just drains it.

I changed out the nozzle on my recirc pump to a two way and teed it into the bilge line for a pumpout if needed. One nozzle position recircs. One nozzle position pumps out. Using the recirc pump of course. Confused yet????? If I'm wrong I'll be corrected but I'm pretty sure that's how mine works.

The fill pumps Stratos use WILL overflow out the top of the lids if they are run on manual. If you will notibe there is no gph rating. The pumps are capable of putting water in faster than the overflow will drain it out....

Re: Questions on livewell controls (Stratos286)

Recirc. sets the drain valve to recirculate the water for the "Main Pumps" only...
Auto will pump in fresh water for the "Main pumps" when the boat is off plane and will switch automatically to recirculate the livewell water when the boat is on plane, then go back to fresh water when it comes off plane again... Go to http://www.flow-rite.com/marin...enu=1 to see how these valves work...
The "Aux pumps" only pull lake water in and are not tied into the Recirc/Empty/Auto valves...
I usually use both pumps to fill the wells quickly on manual, then put my valves on Auto and leave it there all day with the "Main pumps" on Auto, unless it is very hot and I need to keep the water cool, or when I add chemical to them, then I will run it on Recirc...But I still add fresh water every now and then, to clean out the bad water...Only time I use the "Aux Pumps" is to fill the wells, or if I have a problem with the "Main Pumps"...

If you have both pumps on manual full time, you will overfill the wells... They are very strong pumps with only one overflow outlet...

Re: Questions on livewell controls (201pro)

Thanks for all of the information. I am pretty sure that the livewell overflowed when after I had filled it up and with the flow-rite valve set to "recirc", I turned the AUX (freshwater) pump to auto which started the 6 minute timed pump-in of fresh water and overflowed the livewell. Had I set the flow-rite valve to AUTO given the same circumstances, the water level would have balanced itself out.

    Does that sound right?

I think this is the same setup that my 200 pxl has, if so how do you make the pump out feature work. I have done it before but by accident. All I know is that the red valve inside the well has to be pulled out a little. What does everything else need to be set on.
