    16 or 20 for a '96 Stratos 278

Hey guys I'm getting ready to do some carpet work on my 278 and wanted to see if someone had some input. I've been thinking about which weight on the carpet. 16 oz or 20 oz???? The carpet in the boat isn't really that thick and the lids are all pretty dang tight as it is. I know you can use a set of clippers to thin out the thicker carpet but wanted to see what you guys had used on your similiar boats and how bad the lids were to get open after you did it.

Oh and what is a good name brand contact cement for the lids?

I have done 2 boats. 1st boat i did the deck and floor with 20oz and the lids with 16oz and the 2nd boat did all of it with 16oz. I did not like the way the 1st boat turned out but the 20oz carpet was nice to stand on (with bare feet). The lids were harder to open (The ones that met the deck carpet). The lids are easier to open on the 2nd boat and standing on the 16oz carpet is not really noticeable. Use DAP contact cement on the lids (be sure you have the carpet ware you wont it when you put it on the lids it will not come back off )

I had a 278 and recarpeted it with 16oz, and came out great. Like you said the fit with 20oz on the lids would be a bear to open. They will be tough to open with the new 16oz....

i used 20 0z all you have to do is take a hair shaver and shave off the carpet on the lids and they work like a charm

    Thanks for the input guys!

Would you use indoor/outdoor glue for the floor or just the outdoor glue? Any particular name brand you have faith in?

I was looking at the 16oz carpet from BassPro and wondered if anybody had used that before?
