New numbers on my 201

Had to have the spark plugs and fuel filter changed in the ol Etec last week. They also did the deflector pin update. I have 85hrs on the motor now. So Sunday, when the Allison boys were out, we were playing around. Got to a shoreline with a slight wind ripple and I let her rip. Stock 28 Raker2, 20psi water pressure, 2.5" under pad, 8" setback, 30 gallons of fuel, all my tackle, full cooler, full bladder , 79.4 mph gps at 5900rpm. One of the guys running alongside me was laughing at me, said he looked over and I was beating on the console, ducked down trying to get her to go faster....

If I get off my lazy butt and have the prop worked, there might be more in her. I have a 28 TXP that runs dang near identical numbers, I would like to try a 29 Tempist to get my rpms down a bit....

Grant thats flying for a big boat. Ive got 4 65lb Trojans, way to much tackle. I weigh 225. Always run close to full fuel. And it will always run 71 - 73.4. But I only turn 5600 with a 27T1 Rich Boger worked over. Never messed with it to much because Iam pretty pleased and dont get passed much anyway. One day Iam gonna put the Hydro Tech stuff in and mess with props and see what see will do.
Just how many boats this size with that weight can run your numbers?

I have yet to see another 201 with an Etec that can even come close to me. Rich Hahn has one that will be doing well once his motor frees up, he's running 76 tournament loaded right now with 10hrs on the engine. The 201's with 250XS's on our team are running right at what I am running. I have 3 group 27 batteries, I weigh in at 130, have the front two storage lockers full, the rod locker on the left full, and the rod locker on the right pretty empty. The cooler was full, the rear right storage was full and had a 10lb anchor in it, the left rear storage was empty. Livewells only had empty soda cans in them.

This was the first time I had her out with less than 40 gallons on board. She liked it, air temps were in the mid 70's, water temps in the low 70's. One of the Allison guys jumped in and drove her to 78.6 on his first pass, so it is mostly in the boat, not much in the driver...

AB, I can run close, but don't think I can get those #'s with everything in the boat. I have seen 79.7 very light and can run 77-78 all the time without a partner. With a partner, fuel and livewells full I can run 74-76 anytime I want. Just wish I could get it to break 80 once!!!

Me too! I'd love to see 80 on the gps just to say I did it with a 225HO.

I did it with two different 225 H.O. E-TECs. Not on a 201, but with two different boats.

80.9 with my '05 200 ProXL and 82.9 with my '06 Blazer 202.

I ran 80.6 in my 2004 201 with DI 225HO. I had no gear in the boat and had a very good stock 28 Raker. I later spun the hub out on the prop and traded it in for a new one. Unfortunately, I did not realize until then how good that 28 Raker was.

The 201 handled the speed very well.

I've only had mine to 80.5 going down I-40 with a tailwind and that was even too fast for me ........

way to go...you guys must have 'em made of cast iron 'cause I wouldn't be ripping down any of the Middle Tennessee lakes I visit going over 80, even if I could

I've noticed the same thing. My 201 handles better the faster I get her going.

I think with some prop work 80 with my tournement ready 201 is not out of the question. Or least I hope it's not...

I have got to start trying some other props. 73-74 is all I can get out of mine and that is 74 with just me and a light load and it only drops to 73 with a full tourney load, full gas, and 2 people. I'm running a 27 tempest and I'm actually turning it too many rpm's. I've thought of trying a 28 raker, I've got access to one I can try. I was running a 26 raker 2 and was turning it too many rpms also but I did see 76 out of it once. I sent it to Mark to have him work it to a 27 pitch to get the rpms down and balance and blueprint it and its not as fast as the tempest now. I know I'd sure like to get up closer to 80 tho.

I can still turn the worked raker and my stock 27 tempest to 6100-6200 rpms if I let it. Maybe getting a prop on there that will get the rpms down will help pick some speed up, I don't know. I thought a 28 pitch would have been too much prop for a 201 with a DI HO but that may be what it takes to get the rpms down and the speed up. Anyone have any ideas?

It's on order. Should be here middle of February. I have a BFL on the 24th, so I'm hoping it's here by then. Since it's not an E-TEC, I'll have to remember to break it in right.

Hopefully it costs less than the price difference between the 2 motors.....The Etecs are worth the extra $$, but you're only going to keep your boat for a year so it's probably not worth the extra cost

AB my motor is setting at 3.5 or a little more under pad..should it be around 2.5 to 3.0???the nose of my boat walks like crazy..give me some help

What's your water pressure? What prop are you running? What kind of rpms are you turning?

As a general answer, raising your motor in most cases will help with chine walk. The other thing that helps is seat time. 3 1/2" is the ideal starting point on these boats. If everything is good (water pressure, rpms, etc), then you can ease up 1/4" at a time. Little increments make big changes, so don't try to move it an inch all at once. You'll know it when you get to the sweet spot.

Jason has the right approach here. That's what I did, I found last weekend that it will not maintain water pressure at 2.25" under pad and a stock lightning gearcase. I dropped it back to (now) 2.4" under pad and am running 20psi of water pressure and lifting well. I have a new prop coming any day now that I am going to get worked. A few weeks ago I turned a stock 29 Tempest to 79.7 at 6000, so I have one coming to run, then send off to get worked over. Hopefully getting the rpms down a touch will also net an increase in top speed. It was a repeatable number too, I did it on multiple passes with that prop and not trying too hard, it wasn't like I was wringing every last bit out of her to get there. Normal fishing load, 35 gallons of fuel.
