Etec. I am nearing 80 hours on mine and it has been dang near problem free! Uses very little oil (I have only bought 4 gallons of oil since I bought the boat back in Mar 06) and pretty easy on the fuel. Make sure it is set for XD100 and rock with it!![]()

XD100 is the oil? what is the difference in 100 and xd50?????what prop are you turning???what jackplate do you have...
My setup is a 6" Slidemaster manual plate with 2" Bob's Machine spacer blocks (total of 8" setback). I am still experimenting with height, but right now I am 2.75" under pad. I have a 28 TXP and a 28 Raker2 that I run. Mind you that very few 201/225HO combos are running what I am, but I turn either prop 5700-5750 and 77+mph any day of the week. I have had it up to 78.8 with 3/4 fuel with the 28 Raker2, both props are going to be worked real soon. On most of my trips, going by gps mileage, I am getting a rough average of 5.5mpg in fun fishing conditions and a tad less when I run her hard.
XD50 and XD100 are the Evinrude oils. If you run XD50 (a synthetic blend) your motor will use just as much oil as any other motor out there. The programming of the EMM for XD100 leans the oil mixture out a touch and you get better oil consumption. The last time I put oil in my boat was back at the beginning of November and right now the reservoir is down about 2". The boat never sits still either, it is on the water Sat and Sun of every weekend.![]()
I've had two 225 H.O. E-TEC's and have been pleased with each of them. However, all of the big manufacturers are now building excellent motors. Go with what suits you the best. If you like your 250ox66, then you'll like a 250 HPDI just as well if not better (high-speed lower unit, better gas and oil consumption, etc.).
Speedwise, AB's boat is a tad faster than just about all the other H.O.'s The 250 HPDI will generally be about 1 mph or so faster on the 201.
Bring your boat down to Nashville this weekend. C&O will be there and we have a couple of new '06 leftovers with 250 HPDI's and 225 H.O. E-TECs.
Check them out here: http://www.candomarine.com
I'll be there Saturday and Sunday if you can make it down.![]()

Etec all the way. Take advantage of the longer warranty you can get with them. Not to mention they are awesome motors.
I would put the new Mercury 250 Pro XS on it!
left over '06, I'd get a 300 PRO XS. my $.02

just got back from the Nashville boat show..I am the new owner of a 2006 left over ,,201 pro with 225 ho E-Tec...belive it or not the same color as my 2004..Todd at C and O is one nice guy...aslo got to meet 1niceblazer ...guys give me all your input on the 225ho E-Tech.....thanks
You are going to love it! As I stated earlier, feed it the Evinrude XD100 oil, regular fuel, and have at it. There is no break-in limitations on it. I took it easy on mine for a few hours, but more or less just drop her in the water and go fishing like you normally would do. It will drink the oil at first, then once the EMM stops double oiling you will see a DRAMATIC decrease in consumption. Mine had kicked out at the 10hr 13 min mark, a friends has just kicked out and he had 10hrs 50 minutes on it when he had the dealer run the EMM data. It takes time for it to free up too. My experience was that at the 25-30hr mark, I had an increase in power from the engine. Holeshot improved and I picked up about 200rpms on top. Nothing in the setup changed, just one day it did xxxx and the very next weekend it was doing yyyy. The Etec is very mild mannered and very quiet. I run down the lake at about 4000rpm jamming to the radio just like I would in my car. Up to about 5000rpm all you hear is the wind. Above that, then the motor sound kicks in....What I really love is the loowww idle on this thing (mine idles at 500rpm). Makes it great when looking for structure or handling around the dock.
Congrats on the new ride! We need some pics!![]()

Ab,how much difference did the 2" spacer make ??? I am thinking about putting them on my boat..what is the cost or did you do it???
When I bought my boat, it had a standard 225 Etec on it. As part of the deal, before I took delivery they swapped it with a 225HO Etec and installed the spacer blocks at the same time since the motor would be off. From what we have seen the 2" spacers don't add a whole lot to top end, but make it drive easier with less trim and allow you to raise the motor a touch higher.
