    Transom wedge

    Hello all,

    What do you think of transom wedges to increase the amount of trim. I have a 200 ProXL with a 225HO e-tech, a 7 1/2" detwiler hydo jack plate, runs 74-77 gps with a 28" racker at ~5700 rpms. When I have it all the ways trimmed in it has a negative trim angle and when trimmed all the ways up I still gain speed, so I think I can gain some top-end with more trim. Any thoughts??????????

    Thanks Mark C.

    That sounds like a pretty sweet set-up the way it is . If your not having any problems , I'd either tinker with little stuff or just leave it alone . JMO.

    I think you're good where you are now. Spend some money on a prop job from Mark and see where that gets you. Also, it seems like a bunch of work, adding the wedges, to see if you will gain or loose top end (you KNOW you'll loose some of your hole shot).

    I'd venture a guess here and state that most people will gain 2-3 MPH just from a good blueprinting. That will put you near 80 MPH...WOW!

    If you feel like you need that much trim, then your setup is off. A Stratos does not need that much trim to run right. It should run best at 3/4 trim or thereabouts.

    Hi

    Thanks for the input. Your right about the balance and blue printing and I was planning to send Mark a couple of props (28" racker and a 27" renegade) over the winter. I have the wedges now, they were only $75, so I think I'll wait till the spring and see what Mark can do after B&B. Not sure what could be wrong with the setup which would lead me to need all that trim and then some, I have the hydro jack so its not prop height, hummmmmmmm.......

    Thanks again

    Re: Transom wedge (M_Cormier)

    What is your engine height and what is your water pressure when you are getting these speeds? Could be prop work, the motor a tick too low, etc. With my 201, every 1/4" I came up felt like I had more cup added to the prop. When I first got the boat, it was at 3.5" under pad and took every bit of trim to get her to lift. I am now at 2.75" under pad and this barge 201 lifts very well at 3/4 trim. You should feel the boat around 65 pop onto the last pad and really pick up and go. If it doesn't, then there is too much boat in the water either from low engine height or lack of cupping in the prop. Does your Raker have the pressed in rubber hub, or Evinrude's new interchangeable hub like the Merc Flo-Torque?

    If you don't already have them, Why don't you try some trim extenders first ?

    BuzzB8;
    I want to get the best out the rig I have and balance and blue printing is a must do and Mark is THE MAN . The hole shot does not change that much from fully trimmed-in to just bellow 1/4 trimmed-up, it seems to have some negative trim. I may not lose much in the hole shot but I agree this is a possibility.

    AB;
    I'm in a tournament Sunday, I'll check to see what the prop to pad distance is (I think it is from ~3 1/2" for the hole shot and ~2 1/4" top end), the H2O pressure is 17# before I start trimming-out and I never let it drop below 15# when fully trimmed.

    Ohirolina;
    I'm not sure if they make trim extenders for Evinrudes but I'll check.

    Thanks for the input
