    295 Pro XL Prop Setup

Boat is rigged with a 200 Optimax, 25 Tempest Plus, 6" manual jackplate. Engine height is currently 2 3/4" to center of prop shaft below the pad. Do not have any final MPH or RPM values as of yet. I have always run a 4 blade on my previous boat and preferred the overall performance compared to a 3 blade prop. I was wondering about the performance of this rig with a 4 blade. Appreciate the info.

check with Todd but i would try a 26 tempest if that one does not work . I was running a 25tempest on my merc 150 xr6....was just a little too much prop but still ran great!...I am now running a 26 tempest on an etec 200 ho.

MVV..You motor might be too high.. ..stratos and javelin like the prop around 3 1/2" below the pad.. ...The 4 blade is a better tourn prop, better hole shot and handling in turns with a heavy load .....<>rob<>...

As long as the elevation where you are isn't crazy high, you'll need a 26 Tempest set at 3.5" pad to shaft......if you're low on elevation you need the 27 Tempest...5750 and you're idling with Mercs Gaurdian system.

    Wild Ride (fish tailing)

I brought the engine back to 3.5" below the pad as suggested. Tried to run full throttle to see about RPMs with the 25 prop but the rear end of the boat gets pretty wild (fish tailing) about 5300 RPM. Backed down on trim but problem appeared to be getting worse. Backed off the throttle and it stopped. I am new to a boat of this speed and do not know if this is normal or not. If it is, what driver inputs would be required to stop besides slowing down. I have drivern an 18 footer with a 150 for the past 12 years and never experienced anything like this.

    Input appreciated
    Thanks

How was your boat handling with the engine setting higher? I run my 04 295 pro at 2.5 below pad and it handles great. I run a 175 evinrude. Keep bringing your engine up 1/4" at a time. See where your mph's start to drop and water psi gets below 15 at wot and full trim. Once the water psi and speed drop, you have just gone a little to far as to you best setup.. it takes time.. I am at 2 1/2 below pad to 2 3/4.. good luck..

MVV, Listen to Todd he knows Stratos Boats. I have a 195 ProXL with a 200 HO Evinrude DFI. I run a 26 Tempest loaded and a 27 Tempest light set 3.5" below the pad on a 6" jackplate. The boat will run in the low 70s. I ran a 4-blade prior to the Tempest but I believe the Strats handle better with the 3-blade props. You need bow lift on the Strats and the 3-blade prop provides that. You will learn to handle your new boat with seat time.
