    1988 201 Pro

When did Stratos stop using wood on their boat? I ask because there's a 1988 201 Pro that I may want to buy but not until I get the pros and cons from you guys. It has a 150HP Merc, single console, dual axle trailer... I can't afford a new boat, I guess too old to have a huge and too long of a payment. Thanks for any info you guys can spare...

I have a 1989 201 and I love it. It rides great and handles rough water real well. The first thing you will want to do is get rid of the 150 and find a 200/225. Not only will that improve speed but the ride gets better too.

hardestyeric, thanks for the info.. If I buy it the 150 probably would stay. Does yours have wood or it's all fiberglass?

You can see a picture of my boat on the pictures of our boats pg2.

Hey maybe I've fished with you, and never knew it..My Grand parents used to live in Hempville. I used to take my boat up there, and fish all the time..

Kinda like when I was in the Army..They'd ask where I'm from..I'd say Tx, and they'd say..HGey I know someone from from Tx..yea....like I'd know um.

Only if you've fished Belton lake and Stillhouse lake a lot. I've never really ventured out of those two lakes.

Like you I was in the army also. I've spent twenty years. I thought that's enough. LOL!!

I'm not 100% sure but if I had to bet I would say that they are wood. A couple good checks to see how the transom is, look at where the transducer's are mounted on the hull and look at the area around the bolts. I had a different boat that stained the glass around them because the wood was rotting. You can also trim the motor about half way down and stand on the top of the lower unit and see if it makes any noise or gives at all. It it's solid I would say it is fine.
If you watch and wait you might be able to upgrade the motor and sell yours and wind up not spending too much money out of pocket.

I have an 88 201 pro and really love it I do however concur with the above statements you'll like it a lot more with a 200 or 225.. but take it out and see how it runs... knowing that it is underpowered may give you some bargaining leverage as far as price goes... the boat itself is a great fishing platform..
these boats are glass and wood construction.. i dont think you get to all glass intil the late 90's
