starter issues on a johnson 200 limited edition

having problems at times with my motor starting. quite often as soon as i start turning the motor over it is like the starter keeps dropping out as soon as the motor tries to fire. it will turn the motor about 4 to 5 seconds then it drops out instead of continuing to turn the motor until it starts . what could be my problem. it will engage the motor and then immediately disengage

Mine Limited Edition does the same thing. What I think is happening is the engine fires for a second, which in turn spins the flywheel just a tad faster than the starter and disengages the starter gear.

Sometimes it does get to be a pain but it's mostly in the morning when it cold or she is just being fussy.

yep-what he said!Make sure everything is right-bulb hard, good plugs,hot battery with clean tight connections and proper use of the primer when cold.
.That way it will start instead of just kick
