Johnson 200 Hard Start

Hi All,
I'm new to this site and I really enjoy reading the boards.
I have a 1996 Johnson 200 limited that since new has been hard to start. If the motor has not been used for a month or more it is really hard to start and when started the motor will die five to six times while it warms up. While fishing during the day the motor starts right up but then dies right when I put it in gear. It takes four or five tries before I can get going. This happens about twice a day. The motor idles at about eleven hundred and has run great. My dealer put on a new bulb but that did not fix the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be and I Thank you for reading my post.

if it's anything like my 95, it's just a cold starting SOB..... I have to do the same thing.. sonce she's warm, she starts on a dime.

Welcome to the boards.

The hard to start when cold may be how you start it.......try this, prime bulb until firm, turn key to on position, push key in to choke and hold in while cranking, once the motor starts release key, after a half second, push key in for half second, then again, than again, the motor should idle.

As for the stalling when motor is warm........sounds like the low speed mixture is wrong, if the motor spits and coughs the mixture is wrong.

Had the same trouble with my 200 Vindicator. Rustys plan will work for you.Also if it idles at 1100 rpm , thats way to fast. And Welcome to the boards.
